    Hi,
I'm moving dentist - my new dentist has requestd that I get a set of x-rays but my old dentist just did these for me.

Can I request that my old dentist give me the x-rays?

    Thanks!!!!

yes you can. the old dentist needs to keep a copy on file for his records also.

Not quite as simple as that, if your old dentist has a digital x-ray then it is just a matter of burning them on a disc or emailing them to you. However if the dentist has a film x-ray machine then the x-ray films have to be sent away to a specialist company to be copied, your dentist will not give you the originals as they form part of the clinical chart at his/her practice. About 10 years ago I had to copy bitewing x-rays and it was very expensive so expect to have to cover the cost if you want films copied.

If your previous dentist sees no issues on your x rays that'd be good enough for me. let the new dentist know and once you're prepared for any probs that should do. Personally i charge 20 for 2 small x-rays so let the new one take them if it's your only option. Personally i'd just give them to you. Think we'd all go crazy if we over analize potential litigation.

Davo you can photograph old films on a lightbox and email those photos to the patient. I've done that once or twice.

agree with digzy here, bitewings are indicated every 2 years or for new patients. i'm just curious as to the rush in getting a new dentist if you've been given the all clear from your previous one, or maybe there was some treatment outstanding that you didn't mention?
