Hi, I was just wondering if anyone can recommend any good brands that would demonstrate make on you, if you plan to buy their products? My make up bag needs a serious over haul - ie. New foundation, powder, eyeshadow, lipstick, maybe new brushes... think that's about it Previously I have tried MAC but I find their staff seriously unhelpful! Can anyone recommend anywhere, in Brown Thomas, Arnotts or Dublin City Centre?

I got some good help from MAC over the weekend, but I think it can be a matter of luck with whichever girl/guy you ask for help! Benefit in BTs have always been great too :)

I've had make up demonstrations done in Mac, Bobbi Brown and Bare Escentuals and the B.E. one was the best by absolutely miles. I walked out Mac looking like a drag queen - my sister met me and started laughing! Bobbi Brown I got done for a wedding - it was nice but my friends said I normally do my makeup better myself, it was way too no-makeup for a wedding, and I normally like the no makeup look.

Bare Escentuals I loved and ended up buying the foundation kit (which comes with 3 brushes, 2 foundation shades, powder and concealer) and a few different eyeshadows. I had this done in the US and it's way cheaper there. The kit is about €65 in Ireland but it's only €45 on www.feelunique.co.uk. I've bought loads of their stuff since, the eyelining kit is really fab.

I know one girl who could help you. Are you in Dublin?

Not in Dublin, but I travel there regularly.

If you're near Cork there's a really really nice girl working at the Bare Escentuals counter in BT. Don't know what her name is, she's got dark hair if that's any help! She did my makeup when I was looking for a new foundation shade and was genuinely nice instead of the fake over-friendliness you get from some of the other counters. (Which is still better than the rudeness at some counters!)

Thanks for that, but I'm not near Cork and not likely to be down there anytime soon!

Personally I always think it is best to go into somewhere and look at the make up the girls at the counter are sporting. Generally ask someone who has the look you would lake to achieve and looks like they know what they are doing.

Maybe go in and have a chat with them about what you want and if you are getting bad vibes off them then RUN. But maybe do it more politely than I have implied!

I had a make-up consultation at the Clinique counter in Brown Thomas las week and the girl was so helpful.

As Structurally Sound Mentally Unstable said, go to a girl who has the look you'd like to achieve.

The girl at the Clinique counter, had the look I like (i.e; not OTT, just simple day-time make-up).

She was so helpful and didn't try to push anything on me.

I would definitely recommend her and I would go back to her.

If you want her name, PM me and I will send it to you.

    Hope this helps.
