Had the pleasure of watching this film today, and was a very pleasant surprise. Hadn't heard of it before the DVD showed up in work, and this is a film that I luckily judged by it's colourful, vibrant cover!

Extremely successful in it's native France, this film tells the story of a family on five important days over a 12 year period. It's a mesh between, say, 5x2 (far less cynical than that film) and Together. Plenty happens over those five days, but it doesn't feel overly sentimental. It's full of sadness, joy, humour and warmth: often on the same day.

As a family drama, it's a pleasant change from the norm. Fun & vibrant visuals, a playful & interesting structure, excellent performances, and some particularly poignant moments (
the wife sucking the air out of her husband's back support
is a beautiful scene). Anyone else seen it? Didn't seem to get much attention when it was released, which is a shame, as it's a rare uplifting film like Amelie or Together that manages to be uplifting without sentimentality. Definitely worth a watch.
