I'm a big cowon fan. Great quality audio and video. Amp3.co.uk stock different models at good prices.

Many thanks for your response. I've never heard of that make to be honest! What makes it so good as opposed to the others? Also, the prices in sterling are a lot more expensive than the 16GB equivalent in Argos.

Philips have a cool looking android running ipod touch type device coming out soon, but since you don't care about screen size that's kinda redundant :D

Samsung and Sandisk make some good players too, they both make their own flash memory but only Sandisk passes on the reductions to it's customers, and unless you're going to buy online you'll have a tough job finding any current Samsung players in shops.

Creative I have no valuable comment on, I won't touch that crap.

Cowon make awesome devices, the problem though is that they only support the devices that sell well, but that is only a problem for early adopters.

Don't buy any of the none Video specific Archos range as you'll be paying an inflated price for a cheap chinese rebrand.

stay away from the gogear, i had an earlier model but it was terrible! of the lot i'd trust the zen (not the x-fi) as they're fairly trustworthy and extra battery life over the x-fi.

that said, i would heavily second macros42 on the cowon, i had one about 6 years ago and it still works to this day but for the battery (i got in to the habit of leaving it plugged in and on constantly so it was entirely my fault!) and the sound quality even 6 years ago was superior to anything i've had since including my ipod touch. i'll be going back to cowon whenever i change again!
