    Hello everyone !

Newbee here so in need of advice. I am looking to bring a car over to bulgaria where i purchased an apartment.

Just looking for a few different options to get it there, ie. drive, ferry etc etc .

Not worried about traveling somewhere to get ferry etc to bulgaria just kinda looking for routes or advice on what i may run into ( hopefully nothin ) on the journey, costs , boarder problems etc.

Was going to buy a car over there but i have been given a lovely 206 left hand drive for free just need to get it there ?

Any advise and help very welcome, cheers :o

Except for the UK (if you go that route), all the countries on your way until Romania will be Shengen. So you will have to go through a border check three times: When you make it to the continent and again when you drive into Romania and Bulgaria (Romania and Bulgaria are not Shengen states yet). Other than that, you will be free to drive any route you wish.

Thanks for the reply. Unsure what you mean by shengan states ? Any routes recomended to stay along a fairly built up areas as the last thing i need is to run out of juice or break down in middle of nowhere ?

Does anyone know if the sat navs would be a good idea or even work well on this journey ? Halfords where not a graet help on if they would work well ?

I heard that there is a car ferry from france somewhere into bulgaria ? Anyone heard of this or even know where i could check this out as i cant seem to find anything on net ?:p

The Shengen area is a community of 25 European countries that have abolished internal borders. This is pretty much all of Western Europe (except Ireland and the UK) and much of Central Europe. Once you get into one country, you drive and drive and drive... and never see a border.

Sat navs will work anywhere (including exotic places such as Antarctica). They get their signal from satellites that surround the entire planet. What may not work are your maps. Each sat nav comes with a set of maps for specific countries. Once you drive outside, you can still get coordinates - but no more helpful maps. If your GPS happens to be a Garmin, I very much recommend you load OpenStreetMap maps on it. These are free to use and cover the entire globe.

well whoever told you about a ferry from france to bulgaria was wrong, see here
    http://www.ferrylines.com/en/ferries/ferries-in-the-eastern-mediterranean/

www.viamichelin.co.uk has you going from cherbourg through germany, austria, slovenia, croatia and serbia it's a 30 hour journey so probably best done in 3 days.

The insurance is good in all the EU states.

Do not go via the Former Yugoslav Republics (FYR) as your Irish insurance will be no good and you will be forced to buy 3rd party insurance at the border costing around 100 Euro a month. You can avoid all that by going via Hungary and Romania.

I am heading out there myself in the car in a few months, so I will be interested to see how you get on.
