    Evening all,
need to get a battery charger so want to get one that will last - just don't know enough about them - needs to charge a battery for a 2.5 diesel engine & also leisure battery for campervan.
Am I correct that the greater the amp output of the charger the quicker it'll charge? Any other key specs?
Finally, any particular motor factor in Dublin where I might find some value?

    Thanks for your help.

First thing to find out is the voltage of your batteries. Are they both 12V or is one 24V. If the latter you will need a charger that can switch between 12/24V.

The output current will determine the charge time. The higher the current the shorter the time taken. However it is always best to slow charge (trickle charge) to prolong the life.
High current can cause the plates to distort. Some chargers have a boost switch to allow a fast charge but I would only use in emergencies. So one with a current limiter would be best.
Nice to have a voltmeter/ammeter built in to monitor charging.

Look for one with good connecting cables and clips.

Afaik, the time to charge a fully discharged battery is the Ah figure of the battery divided by the A charge output figure of the charger. So, a 65Ah battery will take approx 11 hours if the charger is giving 6 amps.

I have always found Consort (Drumcondra, Finglas, Artane) to be great value. The owner, Eddie, who is based in the Drumcondra shop, is a true gentleman.
