    Hi,
I've just started driving last week. I plan to use the family car. I've been quoted a fee of 190 euro to become a named driver with ''Allianz.'' That fee would cover me from now until the end of January as our insurance will be in need of renewal then.

I thaught this fee was very reasonable at first but i've been hearing about other people getting it for about 110 euro for the year!

So i was just wondering what everyone else is being charged?

With FBD it's costing me €260 for 3 months (also until the insurance is up) on a '08, 1.4L Nissan Note...

That €260 is as a named driver with my Mum and Dad..

It is pretty expensive considering I got quotes on insure.ie where it would cost me €400 on top of my parents for the year... But we have to stick with FBD till November to keep the no claims bonus!

First of all i would say it's a very good price. But secondly, you're stuck either way, as it would cost more for the owner of the car to cancel their policy and start a new one with you as a named driver.

It's usually better value to get named at the start of a policy. My Dad was adding my brother to his policy and he was charged 80 euro, the agent said it would have been free if my brother was added at renewal, but since they are changing the policy they charge extra for that.

So it could cost less in January if you are added at renewal. But 190 isn't bad all the same.

What quote you get is going to change for every single detail - what car, parents age, years ncb, etc etc. 190 is grand, if you're complaining about 80 quid variation between you and jimmy down the road, you'll never find a quote you're happy with when it comes to getting your own insurance.

I'm paying close to 2 grand a year for being a named driver on my parents car. Count yourself lucky OP!

Apart from not knowing your sex, age, parents cars, parents no claims bonus and who was insured on the car we had loads of info:rolleyes:

If the car was a female only or insured and spouse policy then they lose that discount aswell as being charged the price to add you. If it is Insured, spouse and their kids and all are over 25 with full licence then an extra driver should be free, they will charge for a provo licence holder

I was insured at the end of june, cornmarket priced me at €380 on a opel astra, and Quinn costed €1000 on a 10 citroen... I taought it would be more because all i hear (18 year old boy? -insurers normally run!!!) But really anything under €200 isnt that bad! In my opinion!!

Well, since you are looking for quotes as a named driver, and you won't be the primary driver of the car, the quotes are reasonable.
