    hey everyone,

its my college graduation later this week and i dont know what i'm supposed to wear! i know it should be formal but im not sure if i should wear a dress or just trousers and a dressy top, or what! i went looking at dresses today but didnt find anything i liked and wasnt sure whether i was looking at the right kind of style, or if it was appropriate, too dressy, not formal enough etc.)! ive never been to a graduation before so dont know what the general dress code is!

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!! or links to examples of what you did or would wear if possible. thanks!

I just took a quick look at my BA graduation photo from a few years ago, and of the 8 girls in the photo, we're really wearing everything from smart trousers and shoes, to suits (i.e. skirt and jacket), to dresses. As for the 'top' half, there are smart tops and shirts.

Most people wore something dark, or black and white, but there were quite a few who wore 'brighter' colous such as red, green, pink, blue, etc. However, remember that the gown will be covering most of what you wear, so something with nice sleeves (if you want to wear sleeves), top half, and nice shoes would probably be the most important as they'll be seen all the time.

As for whether you go really dressy or formal - that's a personal decision for you as most people are wearing one or the other. My advice would be to wear something you're comfortable in, and shoes you're able to walk in, as the last thing you want is to be pulling at clothes and worried about your shoes as you go up to collect that most important piece of paper! :)
