Applying new technologies to practice

    Hi all,

I'm in practice and I know that many of you probably use macro's, pivot tables etc... to make bookkeeping and other such tasks more efficient.

I would like to pose this question:

To what extent do you use new technologies to maximize the efficiency of the accountancy function within your organisation and what technologies do you use?

I would be particularly interested in hearing from people in practice.

Accounting firms traditionally are slow to adopt "new technologies". I know of some firms who still type up their financial statements in word even though there is accounts production software that would do it in half the time and cost.

I know of one particular practice that only has one PC at reception and everything is done manually. If you need to send a letter, you wtite it in longhand and give it to the receptionist to type, who then give it back to review etc etc.

The new technologies that I'm aware of are:

    CRM software
    Paperless office

    We use:
    - integrated practice, document and client management, accounts production and auditing, company secretarial, and taxation system
    - online (cloud) accounting
    - file sharing workspace
    - digital signatures
    - electronic invoicing and payment
    - video and audio conferencing
    - remote access to client machines
but that would be pretty unusual in our area. So much so that we have just been shortlisted for the final three in the ICT and innovation categories in our county Business Excellence awards.

Self congratulation over..... feel free to ask if you want to know more about the technologies above.
