Car insurance - TESCO

Has anyone got experience of car insurance with Tesco?

They have three different levels, like their food: value, standard and finest. I'm tempted by the value product which is €100 cheaper than my old insurer, but there must be some catch if they're that much cheaper. Any ideas?

    thanks.

I've had it for the last 3 years, but it was with Avaiva then (Hibernian) I was paying €210 fro fully comp with full no claims protection, 1.3 swift, female, 6 year no claims bonas.

Even Aviva them selves were quoting me over €300.

I never had to make a claim, but got my windscreen fixed and called out the rescue twice.

But now, a new company has taken over: RSA Insurance Ireland Limited.

Mine is up for renewal in Oct so the quote should be out in 2 weeks, we'll see then if I'll be staying. www.123.ie quoted me €369 for the same cover.

It's pretty good. They've switched underwriters from Aviva to RSA this year.

Don't forget that you get free breakdown assistance with even the standard policy. The mid-range policy also gives you third-party cover when driving someone else's car - I've rarely seen that offered by Irish insurers.

i don't know where you've been looking but the majority of car insurance companies in Ireland offer both free breakdown service and driving other cars 3rd party

Make sure that you read the small print. The basic product can be really basic.
I went with one direct last year. It cost a little more but it had tons of extras.

I had a small accident last month and the few bob extra was worth it.

most fully comp polcies have this. very common.
