I'm looking to get my hands on some athletics documentaries and I was wondering if people could recommend some?

I watched the Michael Johnson thing about Usain Bolt and it was ok but I didn't like the format of it or something. I guess I'm interested in documentaries about runners, sprinters etc, but would be willing to look at other athletics types too.

So what documentaries would you recommend?

There was a fantastic documentary about the progression of the World Mile Record since Bannister went sub 4 in 1954. Think it was done in the 80's as it only went as far as Cram I think. It was on youtube a year or two ago. The other day I went on to try find it again and it wasnt there.:mad::mad:

Does anybody know what this documentary I'm talking about is and where I can find it online?

I've watched that before, brilliant stuff.
Good idea for a thread grandmaster. I'd be interested in watching that kind of thing myself.

Try get your hands on this http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00d1fjt

Its top class and in my opinion puts any other athletics documentary in the shade.

'Running to the Limits' was fairly decent. it was on chanel 4 around christmas last year. its about a guy called alex vero, who basically trys to change from an unhealthy slob to an elite distance runner. its interesting tracking his progress and he unearths some talent along the way. it should really have been made into a 2/3 part doc. They tried cram too much into an hour but its still well worth a watch! you'll find it on youtube i think but some of the others may get the link here for you if they like. its only my first post and im not that advanced on those sorta things yet!!

I watched this on Sunday after getting it off a friend. I thought they crammed too much in to the hour slot also. It jumped all over the place a bit. This could have been a much better documentary but I got the impression that budget was the issue. The transformation in Alex was impressive. I must watch the extras on the DVD. I hear they are better than the documentary.

"Naylor's Run" is my favourite. About Fell Runner Joss Naylor - Very old documentary but have a DVD of it here on my desk at work.

Spirit of The Marathon was released back in 07 I think. No doubt you'll be able to get a DVD copy somewhere. There are numerous clips on YouTube (that I can't access from work right now to link).

It's not bad. It follows a number of different athletes and amateurs as they prepare for the Chicago Marathon. I found it a little bit cheesey in places..... actually, a lot cheesey apart from the elite guys.

It's the video version of this book. Book is better but video is still great.

I was listening to George Hook's movie show earlier, they were doing the best sports movies of all time. George had his own top 10 of course and he had Olympia (1936) as his no 1. Sounds good. Anyone seen it?

Found this on YouTube. Haile Gebreselassie breaking the 5000 metre world record. The commentary, especially at the end with the crowd cheering, is just fantastic.

    Part 2
