Multi Room Viewing hidden cost?

Hi, I'm putting through an order for UPC TV/Broadband but a bit confused re the pricing on their terms.

I'm ordering it on behalf of my 2 housemates (3 bed house) so don't want to be stung with having to pay any more than I should or have to ask them for money AFTER the install.

We want Multi-room viewing - Can anyone clear up for me if it is in fact free to install if I have cables from the downstairs television going up to each room?

    Quote from upc website:

"A €30 Equipment Activation fee applies for every Digital box or Fibre Power Broadband service ordered. Orders placed online will get an online order credit of €30 for every Digital box or Fibre Power Broadband service ordered. A connection fee of €50 applies to each box ordered for Multiroom Viewing unless cabling is already in place for that box."

So basically how do I know whether a box would be needed in each room or not?

Thanks for any advice on this, I should'nt really be doing this at all only for the fact that I practically babysit my housemates when it comes to bills etc.

    Cheers

For digital tv you need a decoder to convert the digital signal into something you can send to the tv to display (like needing a DVD player to watch a DVD movie)

So for each tv you want to connect, assuming you want to watch something different on each, you will need an additional digital box.

As your house is already wired up in each room, looks to me like you will not be charged the 50 euro per box, but as UPC retain ownership of each box, you will still pay them the multiroom charge per box.

    Thanks for the response.

I'm not clear on this, Are you saying I'll have to pay an install fee for each box? or do you mean the monthly €5 fee?

You'll have to pay the €5 per month per additional box only. I had a similar issue as yours with the cable already in place. They did not charge an additional installation fee. Only an activation fee as I had ordered by phone. You will get a credit against the activation fee as you are ordering online.

Thanks lad, Its doing my head in now because when you go through the booking process it states €50 per room (re multiroom viewing)for a non standard install - I can picture it happening where the lazy shhitthead housemates of mine refuse to pay me the money if it turns out to be non standard.

There's one cable going from the tv upstairs and into each room - is this sufficient for me to assume it will be a standard install??

Once cabling is in place, the installer cannot call it non-standard.

when you say you have one cable going into each room sounds to me like your splitting one signal into different rooms from one point, which means you will have to pay the €50 per room to cable it up.

(E.G) - If you have a cable going from downstairs thorugh the roof and then split into other rooms, he wont install it on that line, they will make you put a new point (box on wall) in each room where the boxes are going).

Same as if you had a point in your bedroom , but split the cable going from there through the wall to the other rooms. Wont allow it.
