Hi, not sure if it's the right place to post this, maybe should put it in the music part...... anyway, just wonder anyone like soundtracks?
There're quite a number of great composers like, Hans Zimmer, John Williams.....
but still looking for others who are not so famous but maybe have one/two shockingly good works....
hoping to hear some recommendations, any name for composers/movies/musicals/songs/tunes are appreciated!
    Thanks very much in advance!

Recently been listening to John Murphy's score for Sunshine a lot, Surface of the Sun is an amazing track, was used brilliantly in Kick Ass too

One of my favourites would be Ennio Morricones score for The Mission. I would also be a fan of Gabriel Yared's soundtrack for Betty Blue. More recently I was totally blown away by Hans Zimmer's score for Inception.

Peter Gabriel has also done some nice work for the likes of Birdy, Rabbit Proof Fence and 'Passion' for The Last Temptation of Christ. He also featured with the stunning 'In your eyes' for the 80's film Say Anything.

But is goes without saying that John Williams is the soundtrack King!!..

Love this subject. Some amazing Film Scores out there.

I'm a big fan of Clint Mansell and Hans Zimmer. I think the soundtracks for The Fountain, Gattaca and Gladiator are great.

Audiomachine do some really cool dramatic, choir stuff which are used a lot in trailers.

The Fountain is an amazing score alright, Death Is The Road To Awe is stunning.

big James Newton Howard fan too, his work on Shyamalans movies are way beyond the quality of the films themselves, especially Unbreakable and The Village.

I'm kinda going 'Frenchy' recently, like Yann Tiersen, Jean-Claude Petit, and Christian Gaubert..... can't speak French, but their works are brilliant!
    btw, Yann Tiersen is genius!!!!!:pac:

Jerry Goldsmith is right up there with John Williams... I'm thinking Alien and The Omen. Another classic soundtrack guy is Bernard Hermann, his work on Hitchcock's films is pretty cool. More recently, Johnny Greenwood's scroe for There Will Be Blood is genius. He was robbed of that oscar...

+1 for Clint Mansell, he has some done stunning soundtracks mainly for Darren Aronovsky, but 'Moon' is excellent too.

    "Tawara"

Newton Howard is great alright. The main theme for Sixth Sense is excellent but the rest of the soundtrack isn't. Unbreakable from start to finish is quite good though.

    I'm obsessed with soundtracks.

Lately I've been listening to and loving the recently released full score to Rocky 4.

Jamin Winans 'Ink' soundtrack would be one of my current fav's. ;O)

Ah, you're right, its a great track.

Rocky 4 is great, its just a big ball of 80s cheese, the fight music is great, pumps you right up :pac:

Me too- it's making my everyday life seem so much more epic.

I think Nick Cave and Warren Ellis' score for The Assassination of Jesse James is great. This is my favourite track

They also did the score for The Proposition and it's definitely worth checking out too.

dunno if this is what your talking about as the soundtrack was not composed for the film, but songs were selected to go with it, BUT, Pulp Fiction, what a soundtrack:D

Parts of it are, parts of it sound like a 70s porn soundtrack, which is probably what they were going for, who knows :pac: I do love the initial opening music, where the cab appears from the steam.

One of my most favourite underrated scores is for Alien 3, its fcuking great, especially "Lento"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

This is just epic, I'm amazed it hasnt been in more trailers, really gets going about 1.00 in.

    Love 1.30 on, very atmospheric.

If I ever get into a car chase in real life I want this playing on my car stereo :D

    Stunning track.

I remember hearing this for the first time in the cinema and the hairs on my neck stood up, epiiiic.

I've the following soundtracks on repeat at work.

Inception - Excellent soundtrack ending with the amazing track 'time'

    Sunshine - Another epic soundtrack

Moon - Full of moving tracks take me right back to the movie scenes

Not a movie but all of Bear McCreary's work on Battlestar Galactica is amazing.

I do quite enjoy the soundtracks Tarantino puts together on his movies as well.

The Matrix soundtrack is cool too.

Was going to say Song for Bob from Assassination of Jesse James but this is great too:

The Matrix Reloaded has some great music also:

Gets really overplayed but it's still great

The soundtrack for Beowulf is brilliant imo.The one below is the main theme but there's some great music in that film

I'd say Gladiator probably has the best overall, the main theme,Now We Are Free and Elysium are brilliant.

Inception and Kick-Ass this year were great.Love the song Bad Reputation from Freaks and Geeks, and just hearing it in 1 fight scene in Kick-Ass was fantastic.Last of The Mohicans has some great pieces aswell imo.

The Disney films tend to be great too.The Lion King,Aladdin,Beauty and the Beast etc all have great soundtracks.I love The Lion King's one so much.Don't know what it is, but those opening credits are just great and make me feel so happy.

Only one mention for Ennio Morricone? :( His soundtracks for Once upon a time in the west, The Mission, Cinema Paradiso just for starters are stunning!

Into the Wild was great original music imo

and for something a little different maybe...some of the blaxploitation soundtracks from the 70s are great -like Across 110th Street, written by Bobby Womack, Shaft in Africa (!) written by Isaac Hayes, Trouble Man written by Marvin Gaye and
The Superfly soundtrack written by Curtis Mayfield

Thomas Newman is one of my own favorite composers. His scores match the tone of each of the films he works on perfectly.

The Shawshank Redemption- It's pretty hard not to get shivers when this piece crescendos. Brilliant-

    American Beauty-

And even though it's from a TV series, the opening titles to Six Feet Under set the tone unbelievably well-

I just love "The Third Man". When I went to Austria on my Holidays i visited some of the locations in the film and went on the ferris wheel used in the film.
