If you move into a smallish place what are goods ways of making the best of the space you have?

if you have a crt tv and/or monitor you could replace both with a tft monitor or a laptop and a telly card.
Replace a desktop with a laptop.
Throw out cd and dvd cases and use cd wallets.
Sell anything you don't use, especially things like books.
Get ebooks instead of books and a pleasant way of reading them (psp, iphone, ebook reader etc - computer screen is not pleasant to read books from).
If you own the place, you could go as far as replacing the bed with a futon, if you think you would be comfortable that way..
Get rid of furniture you don't use.

On the non techie front folding and dual use furniture is really the way to go. Things like wall beds and fold out tables are key for things that are not used all the time that can be called on when in use.

De clutter your possessions is also a good idea such as DVDs, CDs and books. Seasonal clothes with an alternative storage place is good too. Don't have kids they have lots of stuff :D

Have to say, Ikea is a good spot for storage solutions, as they call them. Cheap too. You will get ideas from a visit there, if nothing else.
