Anyone know if there is data available anywhere that would give a sectoral breakdown of the increase in the live register over the past few years?

I would imagine construction would be hardest hit?

    Thanks

CSO has some documents breaking down employment by sector, QNHS would be a start i suppose

    Thanks for that

Shows amount in construction halved over two years! From approx 239,000 to 118,000!

If I could determine how many of those could not transfer or have not left country ie unemployed category - that would be useful.

Would imagine the motor trade is up there just behind construction for job losses. It's been a total disaster.

Have no sympathy for the Irish Motor Industry - a cartel guilty of price fixing deserves everything it gets. Buy your cars second-hand and from a private seller, you'll save money and have the satisfaction too of not putting a cent into a cartel members pocket.

Couldn't agree more. A friend of mine took out a 20-30k loan a few years back to buy a BMW after he finished. His own words were that he was "entitled" (there's that work again) to splurge after spending 4 years in college. It's a fine car, no doubt about it but I, personally, would not spend that much money on a car EVER.

Why spend 30k when one could get a second hand car for 5-8k that would be just a good and more economical.

Fair point, but I have got alot of sympathy for the thousands of workers in the industry that have lost their jobs.
Garage owners/managers aside that may or may not have played by the rules, the rest of the employees in the industry shouldn't be accused of underhand dealing and "deserve everything it gets".
