They are doing the same in the UK. So the X Factor jury will have great big Coca Cola (or whatever) mugs on the table a la the American version.

I wouldn't mind but Product Placement is againist the law. Its kind of like going into a shop and shouting

In fairness they did explain that they were about to do something illegal.

It began when RyanAir complained about No Frontiers' use of AerLingus, since then No Frontiers has had this notice before the show.

But then what is Product Placement?

A competition where the prize is provide by a sponsor? Okay if shows get paid for the competition plus the prize but not so if the prize is just given to the show IMO.

Also AFAIK PP will remained banned on Drama programmes. The article goes on to suggest that Phelan's in Fair City could become Spar of Centra, how would Spar or Centra feel should the Phelan's have a falling out with their franchise manager. There is a reason why the big shopping centre in Coro St is called Bescos. Advertisers don't like storylines that put them in a bad light. Imagine if RyanAir had PPed in LOST.

Not that you could ever tell on TV3 or ITV that the American Idol judges had large Coca Cola glasses on their desks.

What further irritates me is the blanking out of emblems because TV channels haven't got paid from Levis or Nike etc.
