Hi All,Im building a house in Dublin and it has a vast flat roof, due to planning restrictions. We are looking for an industrial waterproofing method which we can walk on as we can use the area as a roof deck, we also hoped to get it in a lighter colour as black would be to hot in the summer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have just laid the insulation on top of the roof slabs and had concrete pumped ontop yesterday so now we need to get it sealed and waterproofed before the winter.CheersLP

Your build up seems unusual - is it proprietary, or did someone design it for you?
I'd be a little worried about a painted elastomeric membrane if you expect a lot of heavy foot traffic - that said, I've never used one.

I have used a proprietary membrane, but in the one place it wasn't covered, it leaked and we found multiple small penetrations.
So you could opt for a membrane finish, but you should really protect it with a proprietary build up that satisfies the guarantee.
We a proprietary silvering where it wasn't to be walked on.
Where we had foot traffric we used a separating/protective layer under insulation, under sand, under paving slabs.
[I think that was the order - been a while now...]
Very secure, with no heat build up in the bedrooms.

Whatever you use make sure its got a guarantee and more importantly make sure its properly inspected for workmanship and sealing.
Some people prefer secret gutter detailing now, and its often the connection to the pipe where it seals to the roof that goes - needs extra care.

    Three things.
    1. Use of a flat roof as a deck needs permission - its not exempted.
    2. Ordinary people occupying or using a flat roof need protection from falls at the edges.
    3. There may be fire safety issues in terms of numbers of people up there, hearing the alarm, alternative exits.
