Bread crumbed food

    I eat alot of bread crumbed food such as chicken breast and fish.I heard bread crumbed food isnt great for you.what do ye think?

    Try to avoid it. It usually doubles the calories of the food, and not in a good way. If you do your own breadcrumbing, it's not as bad. Commercial bread crumbed food (fish or chicken or whatever) is usually junk.

    Depends on what they are bread crumbing. Prawns would more than double, a big chicken breast might be less then double. But it adds a lot. Also, depends on the manufacturer. The cheaper the food, the more likely that it's all breadcrumbs and processed fats, and very little of the food you think you are eating.

    What food could i replace these food with.is it bad to be frying meat like chops etc?

    Just eat the food without crumbing. Pan fry in butter or coconut oil, or even grill or dry fry on a non-stick pan. Don't deep-fry. The fat used is nearly always crap. Some things can be oven-baked with a little olive oil.

    has anyone else tried using blended porridge oats as a breadcrumb substitute ?

    its pretty good and if you use butter or coconut oil it really brings out the flavour.

    To bulk out fried mince to be similar in taste to a burger I mix it with iceberg lettuce, onions and mustard -no bread. It is sort of like those "doner kebab trays" they do in some chippers, just doner meat with no pitta.

    Yes, you can do a batch and store it in a tub, I use it to make pancakes too. I got dried garlic powder in an Asian shop and mix it in with the oat flour and then the finely chopped chicken. I then put on franks hot sauce at the end after frying. I fry in a saucepan with coconut oil and put in water near the end with the lid on which steams it.

    You can get oat flour in some health shops, usually cheaper to make it from oats.

    I happened to look at a couple of labels of breadcrumbed cod today. Average 280 cals per 100g, with only 16g of protein. 100g of fresh cod is about 90 cals and 21g of protein.

    I normally put my fish or chicken in the oven with a little cooking spray with a variety of spices rubbed in(you can get salt free kind as well).
