There is a bit of distance between carna and leitir mor, so where would prefer to be situated?

Not too sure about holidays homes, but there is a hotel in Carna and there is one in Carraroe, which would be the closest to Leitir mor.

Both carna & leitir mor/carraroe have pubs and under amenities....but more than likely a designated driver will be needed when you go out for a drink as taxis would be on the scarce side.

there is a golf course in leitir mor, not sure if its still open though

You will be a longish drive from Galway. How about Spiddal/Inverin ?. I know a few cottage owners nearby.
