Multi Media Hard Drive in a Brick and Mortar?

Buying one as a present on short notice so looking for a brick and mortar shop with a decent price.

So far I've found an Iomega Screenplay 1TB and So Speaky HDMI+ 1TB but from what I can tell online the codec support isn't great on either of them, anyone got suggestions for somewhere that might have a better range in the < 200 price range?

You're probably expecting a reply like this,

but the WDTV + external hard drive is the best way to go for a budget of 200 imho.

Based in Dublin, looked at the WDTV but after you add a hard disk it pushes it well over the €200..

Online you'd manage it for 200 alright,

you should try asking them would they match dabs/kompletts price.

Theres always the cheaper WD TV Mini which is 78 euro on dabs,
just to give you an idea of the price difference.

You could always go with a 500GB or 750GB hard drive instead, to stay within budget.

I'm no help to you which shop has the best deal though, as I'm not based in Dublin I'm afraid.

That hard drive is on promotion until tomorrow, so you might get it on the last day.

I doubt maplin would be the cheapst place in Dublin for those items though.

A lot of people may not know this about maplin,
but if a promotional item is out of stock the day you go in,
and you ask them to order the item in for you during the period of the promotion,

you will still pay the promotional price, even if they receive it in for you after the promotion has expired.

It won't plug into your tv directly, you will still need a separate player with that one.

Ok I'll admit to being a complete eejit when it comes to this kind of thing, but I need something to back up my laptop and it would be great to connect to the tv as well! Any help would be appreciated.

If you want an all in one that will connect to the backup and the TV then you'll want to look at something like the iomega and lacie multimedia drives. Alternatively you can go for something the the WDTV and buy a seperate hard disk drive (that's what I ended up doing and it's working a treat)
