Not even sure if this is the right place for this.

I received a letter in the post today, just a generic brown envelope, one side of which was covered in 'officially sealed by An Post' stickers. Why would this have been done?? The letter wasn't registered or anything:confused: I've never seen anything like this before???

Can happen if a letter is found to have been opened or damaged in transit. Also if an incomplete or wrong address was used and they opened it to see if there was any details within that would help out.

I had it on a parcel before, seemed it had come apart like the other poster said, might have gotten wet. They retaped it back up and had a sticker on it.

Yeah, I've had the same thing, it was on a package that had been badly done by the sender, and had come apart in transit and the AP guys wrapped it all up again.

I think an item found damaged should have a "Cover found open or torn" label and the "Officially sealed by An Post" one is used when an item has to be opened to get a return address or for Customs examination.

When Customs open an item at the An post depot they clearly label the item when they re-seal it.Royal mail and An post will re-seal all items when they are found damaged.
