    Hi Guys,

I'm considering doing an advanced driver training course but have a few questions before I proceed. I've read about it on the ISM website but I am still left with some unanswered questions...

I looked back at an old thread but there was little or no information on it.

Has anybody here done a training course? If so, what does it comprise of?

Does every insurance company offer discounted rates once passed or is it only selected?

Lastly, what are the costs/length of these courses?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cereal,
the IAM in UK is offering the advanced driving course for £139. Go to www.iam.org.uk. You get an assessment, 6 sessions with an advanced driver instructor, ( you may get these all in a day if going over from here, but I don't really know), they will prepare you for the test, and the test itself. Wee worth it, in my opinion.
I don't know if anybody in Ireland is running one soon.
I don't know if every insurance company gives a discount, but most of the larger ones do.

    Hope this helps.

Was hoping for something a bit more local but I really can't seem to find much/anything. I'm off to France at the end of the month and coming back through England for 4 days so might try and incorporate something there.

    Thanks!

I did the IAM test here, in Mountbellew of all places (nearest spot to a tester they had, to me...).

The course was originally offered as an evening course via local VEC.

Cost me €60 a few years ago, and I got 30% off Hibernian Insurance. Not all insurance companies will give you any credit, though.

Well worth it - an hour in a car with a GTC car guy is worth it imho.

In fact, am doing my Bikesafe with Garda in Galway in the a.m.

Me ? Can never have enough driver training imho.

Have look here, and email them for info local to you: if no luck, come back to me and I might be able to dig up a phone no. http://www.iam.org.uk/iam_in_southern_ireland/theiamintherepublicofireland.html

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
