Going to NYC next Fri.My passprt is 6 years old and is in what I would consider good nick except the harp on the cover is a little fades and there is a tiny bit on the photo page where the plastic is a little lifted - I mean vv. small like less than 2mm at the corner.

Do you think I will encounter any problems? I hadn't given it a second thought until the bf mentioned it to me and has given me anxiety over it!!

    Thanks

Probably will be OK. The fading etc won't be a problem. If the plastic is peeling at that level it should be ok as it sounds like (and I'm sure it looks like) normal wear and tear. However, no one can give you a 100% "yes" apart from US Immigration.

Imagine the state of some passports they must see?

War correspondents coming home. Refugees. etc etc.

Dont worry, I'm sure you'll be fine!

My old passport was a thundering disgusting disgrace. I spilled coffee all over it and then a banana kind of melted on it because it was left on the counter. It got funny looks and I was told to get a new one but no one ever stopped me.

    Thanks for the replies.

Metrovelvet - did u travel to the US with it?

Also, I'm travelling to Newark with Continental - does anyone know if passport control is in Dublin or NYC?

Dublin, last time I travelled with them, which is the last time I will ever travel with them, but that's another story. :)

It depends - there are two flights a day. I believe on the early flight (9am) preclears in Dublin at the moment.

Thanks guys that has eased my mind a bit what with the new ultra slick looking passports they have now I was afraid mine would be questioned.

My flight is at 10:55 or something so hopefully the clearance will be in Dublin - would be nice to have the weight off my mind before boarding, hmm wonder if ther is a way I could find out for sure..

That flight doesn't pre-clear at the moment.
