How to lace runners correctly?

Following training on Wednesday night I finally came to the conclusion that my existing runners were totally clapped out. Sore legs on Thursday confirmed this.

Picked up a paid of New Balance 738s last night but I am not quite sure how far I should lace them up. In comparison to my previous runners this pair lace up all the way to your lower shin (i.e. up to the highest point on the runner and then another hole back towards your leg). Should I place the laces in all of the holes or just to the highest point?

I suppose when I christen them I can try with and without the last hole and see what is most comfortable.

Its a personal thing to be honest as long as they feel comfortable and arent too tight or come untied during race you should be grand this was just merely an alternative way if you ever start to get pains in the tops of your feet as its a way of balancing the tension from the top of the shoe

I get those pains in my work shoes when they are done too tightly and the same with my ski boots if clamped up too tightly but I have yet to experience that pain with trainers.

Will give it a go if it does occur with this pair.

Thought it was very odd when I bought a new pair of shoes and the shop had laced them like that, but that's now how I do mine.

I'd second that. I Lydiard lace all my shoes because it takes all pressure off the foot. I've never had problems on the top of my shoes but it feels like the feet are less restricted this way.

On the flipside, it makes the shoes a bit more moveable and prone to come off when caught in bog, so you'll have to weigh the pros versus the cons.
