New Health Regime - Hungry!

    Hi all,

    I just started a new health regime this week. I'd fallen foul of the office to couch lifestyle and decided to do something about it. I've just joined a gym which I intend to go to twice a week and I also play badminton twice a week. I may also fit in some sort of class like Spin or Pilates.

    My diet wasn't too great but wasn't too bad. However I've now sorted it properly and have a good balanced nutritious diet (I think anyway). Goal is to lose 3 stone and get my BMI below 25.

    My only problem is I'm feeling pretty hungry later in the evening and night.
    Is there anything you could suggest that's healthy but would also keep the hunger pangs away?

    best thing to do is outline your typicals daily diet in detail from AM to bedtime including drinks. Then we can go from there. If your getting hunger pangs in the evening you may not be eating enough during the day.

    Id read the stickies at the top of this forum and the fitness forum. Great deal of free info there that would would normally pay for to hear from 'experts'.

    As a whole - ditch the boxed breakfast cereals, eat as much whole, unrefined foods and get good fats and some protein into you. If it has a list of ingredients you cannot pronounce, it's bad for you! Think of foods that your great grandmother would have recognised as 'food'. Oats, meats, fish, nuts, fruits, veggies etc should form the bulk of your diet.

    Hiya

    I used to be the same when I started my healthy eating plan at the start of the year. I used to go to bed early to be honest when I was feeling starved. I was so used to just picking at food and having my head in the fridge all night that I think my body was looking for the food as a habit more than anything

    But i agree its best to list what you are eating to see if your eating enough and the right stuff.

    This week:

    Tuesday
    Breakfast - Bowl of fruit cocktail, danacol cholesterol yogurt, low fat fruit yogurt, coffee, glass of water, multivitamins

    Lunch - Brown bread sandwhich with sweet chilli sauce, chicken, tomato, lettuce; glass of water, coffee.

    Dinner - Chicken fajitas x2 (with salsa, peppers, onions); orange juice.

    Wednesday
    Breakfast - Bowl of fruit cocktail, danacol cholesterol yogurt, low fat fruit yogurt, coffee, glass of water, multivitamins

    Dinner (office canteen) - Salmon darne with pesto; boiled carrots, cheesy cauliflower baked potato, glass of water, coffee.

    Evening - 40g healthy muesli, low fat fruit yogurt, orange juice, pint of mi wadi. Picked onions later in the evening.

    Thursday
    Breakfast - Bowl of fruit cocktail, danacol cholesterol yogurt, low fat fruit yogurt, coffee, glass of water, multivitamins

    Dinner (office canteen) - Bolognaise in baked potato; green beans; glass of water, coffee.

    Evening - 40g healthy muesli, low fat fruit yogurt, orange juice, pint of mi wadi. Picked onions later in the evening.



    I probably need something a bit more substantial, fibrous for breakfast perhaps. Same as DixieChick has said, I was very used to putting my head in the fridge on a regular basis.

    I agree, I would definitely bulk out the brekkie. You basically are having friot and yogurt which, if it was me, Id be eating my arm by 10:30!! Porridge and eggs is a great breakfast. I myself have Lizis Granola, its expensive but has none of teh normal sugary stuff of other granolas. If I have an exercise heavy day Id have a hard boiled egg as well.

    You havent listed any snacks in between meals? Are you very hungry before each meal?

    Are you male or female? Have you read the Stickys on the top of the page to see how many calories you should be eating around?

    I'm male. I have a good idea on the calorie front and at the moment I'm trying to keep it a bit under the GDA. I'll check out the stickies though.

    There's no snacks between meals at present! I might add in something healthy though. I'm not that hungry before meals. Sometimes maybe but I generally I can get through the morning and afternoon ok, especially at work which keeps me distracted.

    Looks very low in calories for me, especially for a man. You need to snack on high protein stuff like nuts, cheese etc. It's no wonder you're starving! There must only be about 1200 cals in those days. You need about 2000.

    Well you get the idea. I'm no expert but most of what you are eating seems fairly based around sugar...I'd be ravenous constantly if I was eating your diet. Also seems quite insubstantial compared to what it could be. Up the protein and fats and ditch the sugars for a start - eggs, porridge, nuts, more lean meat, veg etc and you'd probably feel a lot more full...
