Renault Grand Megane

Just wondering if anyone drives the new 1.5 dCi Renault Grande Megane ? Waht do you think of the Grande Megane ? Any niggling issues ?

I just ordered a grande Megane Dymanique. I am trading in my 10 year old Opel Omega and got €6,700 scrappage agianst it . Considering the market value is only about €1,500 if I was lucky I thought it was too good an oppurtunity to miss Renault Finance is 7.9% apr which was much better than the rate offered by my own bank which meant I was able to borrow the extra 1,400 to get the mid-range model and still pay less per month than taking finance from ny own bank.

I looked the running costs before I made a descision and it was a no brainer. Mpg 60mph v's 22mph on my omega - saving 1,800 per annum on fuel costs. Tax €104 v's €624 , insurance €200 less . 5yr warranty included , No NCT till 2014, cheaper servicing costs. After netting these savings against the car loan its costing me just €110 a month to drive a brand new motor.

Offer ends 30th Sept as far as I know !

I think it's the best value new car currently available. And not just good value, in Estate form it is an excellent car. Your post says it all, a no brainer really!

We have the model you're getting since Spring and it's fantastic so far. We get about 1000k per tank mixed driving and it easily fits all the kids gear, buggy, travel cot etc in the boot, which by the way has a very low lip so is easy to get stuff in and out of. It's a bit of a looker too, imo.

Did you get the warranty free or at the 450 asking price.
Where did you hear that it ends on the 30th Sept. Reason I ask is that I am on the verge of ordering one of these.

Lot of car for the money. Workmate has one a few months and loves it.

His only downsides were that he regrets not buying the Tomtom spec one as he has since been in one and thinks the interior is nicer (leather steering wheel etc.), and he has also had rear parking sensors retrofitted since he bought it as he said the view out the back isn't great.

I negociated it so that I got 6700 rather than 6300 trade in effectively giving me the warranty for €50 euro

I know the Renault Finance offer ends 30th September . I think the reason is that there is a 10 or 12 week waiting list to get one which brings you close to the 31st December 2010 when the government scrappage scheme ends.

I ordered the Grand megane dynamique in black on 18th sept. Anyone any ideas of expected delivery? All I keep getting is 'dunno yet' ..

I managed to get 6000 discount in the end for trading in my 2000 pug 306. oh and a 5 yr warrranty.

My poor pug has heard us talkin about the new car though and is now playing up something rotten (she needs a good talkin to to wake up in the morns now), so the sooner the better!! sales guy quoted 3 weeks ish at time of order, don't like the sound of 10 weeks!

dak do you have yours yet? Whats it like?

Wheres the best place for a Grand Megane?

Edit... as in who is doing the best deals on them? If you have bought one in the last few months under the scrappage would you post how much you got it for and from whom.

Does anybody know if Renault are still offering Finance of 7.9% apr?

Has to be the best car I've had. Nice spec, great handling. Have to agree with one of the earlier posts, the rear window does hamper view a bit while reversing. Great MPL, I drove from thr back end of Kerry to Dublin on less than a quarter of a tank of diesel. EXCELLENT value.

    Try the Megane tourer/estate dynamic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Grudle

Mine was found as grand megane, try giving the reg instead if you have it.

    Could anyone answer the below?

I picked up my new Grand megane during the week. Loving it so far but have one little niggle that I'm wondering about!

The unit that the rear view mirror is on seems to have a gap between it and the roof material and I can see a wire coming from the rear view mirror and going through into the roof. I'm wondering if this is the same for all the Meganes or if some sort of cover is missing from my car?

    Thanks in advance,

    Grudle

Just had a look at mine and I can see the wire coming from the mirror into the roof. Never noticed it before until you mentioned it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Grudle

Thanks for checking. Might mention it to it to the dealer, can't do any harm.

Will report back with whatever response I get.

    Thanks again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Grudle

    Just to update,

I was out with the dealer this morning and had a look at the demo car and the wire was exposed there too. Must be a "design feature".

Maybe it will be fixed when the car is due a face-lift. Not gonna worry about it though, can't even see it when driving.

Have to say even though I only have the car a few days I am loving it, had a nice trip to Carrick-on-Shannon from Dublin over the weeked and found that it had plenty of power for overtaking and was a pleasure to drive. Looking forward to many years of enjoyable driving in it.

Mine is the 110hp by the way.

    Grudle

Yeah as I said, until you mentioned it I never noticed it. I went for the 110BHP too. Better to have it than want it :D. Plenty of power there for overtaking. I'd say its the most comfortable car I have ever had, a pleasure to drive.

Hi I know this is an old thread but it came up in a search for me.
Just wondered how those who bought the Megane Estate still feel about the car?
    Has it been reliable?
I am thinking of buying a 2011 Sports Tourer but have a few reservations about buying a Renault.

There was certainly a lot of love for Renault in 2010... How do these people feel now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Coming up to three years ownership this summer and I still love ours. No issues so far other than both my local dealerships are now gone which will be pain when servicing is due but it still feels as solid as it was from new. I won't be winning any races in it, that's what my wife's car is for, but when there's dog's and a kid in it I take it handy anyway, averaging around 4.8l on a cross country trip the weekend.

That's good to hear. What size engine is yours?
Do the rear seats fold completely flush?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,519 ✭✭✭Oafley Jones

I remember nearly having a fit when the wife told me she was buying one of these just over two years ago. I told her she'd have endless problems with it and that'd break her melt. She bought it anyway and it's been absolutely flawless since.

In my defence the megane 2 was a total pos and the laguna 2 probably worse. The current generation are rock solid though and people's perception are still coloured by the ****e that came before.

She has the gt line with 6 speed gearbox and I have to admit it's great. Seats are excellent, very good spec, it's decently powerful and it's got great fuel economy. I think the entire range has the gt lines front now and I think that helps in making it a good looking car. Moved house this month and the estate was a huge help, although the seats don't fold entirely flush.

Still have mine and its been 100% reliable. Haven't needed to use my 5 year Warranty to date ! Getting 5.0l / 100 kms on long journeys and cira 6.0l on short trips.

The only thing I could fault with it is that the gear box is not as smooth as some other cars ie Peugeot but I can live with it !

After my second service brakepads were only 30% worn and tyres 40% wear (15k per annum) so its very economical.

Its not the most exciting car to drive ( well to me anyway- used to have a 140bhp 2lt petrol with full spec) but on the plus side its not draining my pockets ...well theres not much in my pockets after Enda has done his monthly plunder ! So its scores well on the running costs and gets you from A to B with relative ease.

5 years or 80k is what I estimate a renault go without major issues then they live fully up to their french infamous reputation.

    Thanks Dak.
Always good to hear from someone who owns the car.
My only issue now is how flat the back seats actually go? I would often need to carry large flat loads so this would be a deciding factor in my decision.
I'm going to look at one anyway at the weekend but it be nice to have all my facts before I start my search.
They certainly are a very good looking car.
What would be the best engine/trim option,I am thinking of the 1.5dci Dymanique

    There's one in the house.

Nice car, except for the clutch which is so light and has such a long pedal travel it drives me nuts. I like mine a little shorter and a little firmer.

No chance I buy a new renault have the t shirt.
Had a few Renaults but the laguna II diesel had every possible fault you can think of Renault main stealership full service history. Turbo blown springs breaking electrics window regulators lights fan control. Rear Bushings wishbones diesel pumps list goes on finally Sold for parts at 123, 000 miles.
Now all cars go faulty and I understand that but very few cars have every fault. The build quality isnt there.
Up to 80k it was great but after that it was quickly down hill. There is a very valid reason they have low resale value.

If your interested there is a pole on renault forum uk and most owners wouldn't buy another either.

You're not even comparing the same model, never mind the same generation. And who cares what some random eastern European guy thinks on another website.

There not been that vast amount of development in the Renault camp apart from visible looks.
Megan is the lower model running on older technology and will just mention window regulators as quick example.
The site is a uk site as there isnt a dedicated irish renault forum.
its predominantly irish and englush owners , very few east Europeas if any.

As you cant be bothered checking out the site, enjoy your glossy sales brochures and ignore everything else.

Renault has the reputation it deserves, along with having a higher % of cars that develops electrical fires due to poor quality electrical components.

...proof please, or I'm calling BS.

For electrical issues, VAG get the prize here, and with some ...........5 of them here all with elec maladies of some kind, I could only aspire to a Renault right now.

And as for the % of car fires ?? complete BS

My only gripe with the car is how poor the ui is for the sat navigation. It's unintuitive and the controls are poorly positioned in the car. It also means that you loose out on having a cup holder.

I have to say I was disappointed with the standard seats that Renault are now fitting. My parents had renaults for years upto the 90s and they were always very comfortable. They're just after returning to the brand with a Dymanique fluence and I think they're not great. The gt line seats are excellent though.

I haven't really looked closely at the Tomtom version but many people now use Google map apps from their phones which aren't bad to be honest. I have a Garmin Nuvi so wasn't really interested in this version of the Megane although I think you probably get a few extra km/lt with the 6 speed on long journeys .

I've used my phone instead of it on more than one occasion. It's so much faster to put the route into. It's a Tomtom system in the car but I find it perplexing as to how it could be laid out so poorly eg the cancel route option is buried in a totally illogical place. Having said that, once the route is in its great. I like the six speed gearbox, and the extra 20hp is welcome.

    Hi Visual

You'll have to revise that estimate. 3 years and 4months and I had to have the gearbox replaced .. 57,000km lucky I took out the extra 2 year warranty.

    Other than that no issues
