hey, my celica had been lying up for months, started a good few times since then but went to put a new battery in it the other day to find that absoloutly no power was going into the car, the battery is perfect, but its like as if the car doesnt have a battery in it at all when its hooked up, no lights on the dash will light and not even as much as a bit of a spark when i put the connectors onto the battery poles.. i looked at the fuses but none seem to be blown.. any suggestions?

Hmmm.. are you sure the battery is good?

Battery is dead. You need to recharge it, or jump start your car, and drive around for an hour. And I mean an hour. Ten minutes won't really charge the battery. If you can, do it during the day, so you're not using any electricity.

Did you clean the contacts on the end of the leads? Also, and I know this might be obvious, but do you have the leads connected the correct way around? The battery might be in backwards, so you have + to - and vice-versa. Silly I know, but start with the simple things!!

is battery in correct way? check negative lead where it bolts to the body, it could have corroded,

+1 They battery seems to be the culprit. Bring back the battery and get a replacement. Check the connectors and the cables also, I doubt thats the problem but it wouldnt hurt.

im doubting its the battery cause it came straight out of a working car into the celica plus ive tried jumpstarting the car and theres not an ounce of power going into the car, not as much as a light on the dash coming up, i tried putting power through the cars cig lighter with a plug in jumpstarter thing and the light on the dash light up but not enough to do anything

must be earth lead, where is bolts to body, or positive where it bolts to starter, is starter on the car lol

Is there a main battery relay in this car?

earth lead might be worth looking at, i checked it and its bolted to the body, but im wondering if any of the other leads coming from the battery could be damaged, if say the lead from the battery to the starter was damaged, would it completely stop any power coming from the battery (besides the obious fact of the car not being able to start lol)?

IF the battery's ok, the next two possible problems are as follows:

    1. Does the car have an immobiliser? If so, connect the battery and lock/unlock the car a couple of times.

    2. Check the relays in the fuse box. Might be worth switching (the same value ones) around. Could be just a dodgy relay.

    Best of luck,
    M
