Can I still still upgrade 3GS to 4.01 & jailbreak it?

    Hi,

I have an Iphone that still runs on 3.12 with a tethered jailbreak, and was thinking about upgrading to IOS 4.0.1, for which an untethered jailbreak was available.

Can I still upgrade to 4.0.1 and jailbreak it, or will there be a problem as 4.1 is already out (i.e. unable to get it signed)?

    Cheers,
    DubDani

have ya got blobs saved in cydia, open cydia and across the top in green writing it will tell ya what FW it has blobs for, then just download a copy of 4.0.1 and use a downgrading guide, its the same

You've been fed misinformation my friend. iOS 4.1 isn't out until at least next week. You have a few days to upgrade.

No, after near killing and resurrecting my wifes iphone 3gs with 4.02 ios, the 4.01 was the mini update after the ios4.
It was done to fix the signal strength bug on the iphone 4, so will have minimal effect on the 3gs.
I think it can be easily done anyways, jailbreaking 4.01,

Seems I ran into my first problem. I can't get TinyUmbrella to save my 3.12 SHSH.

    I get the Error:

Cydia does not have your SHSH for iPhone 3.1.2 (7D11). There is NO way for you to get them. You are just too late.

Is there any way to get around that, or is that it?

nope ya cant do it, ya can only save the shsh blobs for each firmware as long as apple are siging it

you dont need the shsh blobs, just update do a shift restore with the 4.0.1 firmware and goto jailbreakme.com

If the shsh blobs are not saved on cydia you cannot do the update to 4.01
As apple do not sign 4.01 anymore.

you only need the shsh blobs if you have to downgrade your firmware from a higher firmware version. We worked this out in another thread already.

So you can go up from 3.1.3 to 4.01 even though apple are not signing it?
