DIY Tax Return?

€500 + VAT to an accountant to file my tax return is unjustifiable at the moment. But is it possible to do it yourself?

My books are in very good order so it's just the tax form and final tax figure bits that I need to worry about. Is it like the legal saying, 'anyone who represents themselves in court has a fool for a client'.

    Any help much appreciated.

Regardless of whether you complete them yourself or not, you will need to have the returns signed off by an accountant anyway.

The accountant doesn't just file your tax return, he also prepares your accounts and perhaps other work also.

If you can't afford that fee, talk to them and see will they do it cheaper, I've lowered fee's for some clients recently.

What do you think is a fair fee?

How do you figure that?, from the post I'm assuming that the original poster is a sole trader.

Oh i didn't think you were a sole trader, regardless i think that having an accountant taking a look at the accounts is money well spent. If you can afford it at all i think you should hire an accountant just for a few hours work.
