Medical Card, if you get a job?

    Hi,
    My friend got a job, he had gotten a medical card whilst on the dole. Is that card still valid?
    For some reason also they gave him a card valid for two years? Mine is only valid for a year, which I thought was the norm.

    Is it up to him to say he got a job, or will they know? It's quite a well paid job so don't think that he should be sponging off the state on such money? Are the tax office and hse are of whats going on in each others dept regarding this situation? Or can he just continue to use the card for the next 2 years?

    I know it says that if your on the dole for 1 full year or more you have the right to the medical card in your first year of work. He was only on the dole a couple of months though.

    The 2 years sounds like a mistake, G.P Visit cards are for 2 years medical cards 1.

    If he was on social welfare for more than one year then he is entitled to retain his medical card for 3 years.

    A condition of medical cards is that you notify them if you have any change in circumstances.
