    Hi guys,

There's probably a few threads about this but just so people can benchmark properly what are you're battery depletion times overnight like when the phone is in standby.

    I loose about 5-6% - 7 hours in standby

yeah about the same, but I installed sbsettings last night so don't know if that will increase the depletion abit more or not!

Over the last 2 nights I've started to close all windows open in Safari, (usually had around 7 still open) turn off location, 3G, leave wifi on, switch email to manual and exit all apps in multi tasking. Battery lost just 1% between 11pm-7am on both nights.

Sorry, have to correct you here. Assuming you are talking about normal iOS4 multitasking and not a jailbroken version.

There are no aps 'running' as you say when you switch aps on iPhone.

Apple have designed multitasking in that when you switch aps, it freezes the ap you were in and then picks up exactly were you were when you switch back.

The idea is that multitasking then is not a drain on battery life.

Obviously this does not apply to active things like radio aps, downloads etc but people should realise that the aps that are available for multitasking are not running in background and there is no need to kill them.

Multifl0w and backgrounder in cydia is a savage combination.

Why would you need this now that you can multitask on iPhone iOS? What's the difference?

i use a small vavigation app called Wase.
when i turn it on my location services icon comes on, and when i exit the app the location services icon stays on and will stay on constantly until i delete it from the multitasking tray. this to me shows the apps still do something when there still in there, if not to only use up the ram at least.

because it allows you to exit some apps and leave them running in he background, like some radio station apps etc

Do you have an iPhone 3g, as I can do that on a 3GS with iOS 4.

    no, IP4.
for instance, when im listening to FM104 through the 104 app and i want to do anything else, i have exit out of it and hence it stops playing.

OK, that means then that the FM104 ap has not been updated yet for multitasking!

I say about 5% for me
    With wifi on
    And 3G on
And about 9 apps running in the back round

I was dropping about 1% per hour in standby. Last night I closed all apps by double clicking the home button. I left everything else the same 3G on wifi off push off etc. By just closing all the apps I only dropped 1% every 3 hours last night! I thought this list was just a list but obviously not.

Try it with 3G off tonight, be interesting to see what, if any, change there'll be.

ive been saying that for ages, when you close these apps in the multitask tray it improoves battery, but some people just try contradict you :D

    lost 4% last night, midd-night to 9.30am
    3g on
    wifi off
    bluetooth off
    notifications on
email push and check on every 30 mins.
facebook etc notifications on (but in silent mode.)

Yeah, what ever people say the fact is, there is a noticeable difference in battery drop overnight.

There not just a list. Certain Apps do run in the background. For example a radio app. one that supports Ios 4. You can close them and turn of the audio from the drop down list. Try it :) safari also runs in the background. Always has. So I would imagine other Apps do the same. All the native apps always have.

Probably best to close all pages in safari and close the apps from the drop down list. If you want to safe your battery. But certain apps still run in the background. Well the native ones. clock, stopwatch etc.

Me I just turn mine onto Aeroplane mode. Normally lose about 1 or 2%

Left all apps running last night - in about 7 hours dropped 5%. It seems to vary a bit over the nights. The best run i had was about 11 hours - 3% all apps closed and push off.

Has the iphone a reserved battery? This happened to me twice - leave the phone turn itself off when it hits 1% - leave it off for about 30-40 minutes turn it back on and you somehow have 5-6% battery again!!! What's the deal with that?

Anyone else seeing a significantly reduced battery life since moving to 4.1?
Mine has been pretty bad all of a sudden...

Yeah same here, google it and it's full of problems.
Apparently gamecenter and some other factor are causing it.
    Hope update is soon.

Only certain things can run in the background, like music/radio apps and GPS can continue to run in the background, others are just frozen.

yep, im gone from losing 4-5% over night to losing 10% the last 2 nights in a row.
but wasnt paying much attention to it so gona check it tonight when i go to bed.

Close all Safari windows, put email to manual, knock off Location Services, 3G and Notifications. I'm not sure if they all help but in doing that I'm now down to 1% a night on 4.1.

yeah, always close safari wondows and delete from the multitask tray.
tbh i dont see the point in turning all the settings to off as i will ahve to tunr them back on in the morning again.

im not bothered about the loss, im just curious. i have a cable charger in work to charge if it goes too low but i still get at least 2 days useage from one charge so all is not lost.

i have email push on, but no sounds as i dont wana be woken during the night! and auto check every hour.
    3G is constantly on 24/7
    location services is on 24/7
    bluetooth only on whilt driving
wifi only on when needed too.

so im going to bed now, unplugging this thing from charge and will update in the morning.

    100% - 22:31 Tuesday 14th Sep :D
    93% - 08:00 Wednessday 15th Sep :D or :o dont know yet.

i always go into airplane mode when going to bed, saves any messing around with disabling settings etc and alarm still works...

Hi guys wonder would someone mind testing roughly how long they get say browsing the web before each percentage drops down on their phone? Battery seems to be gone to pot today so i wonder was it an app or an update i installed . Browsing over 3g with wifi off and all apps closed im only getting between 2 minutes and 2 minutes 20 before it drops a percentage. Screen brightness about 2/3's on and auto brightness also on. Im almost sure the battery percentages weren't dropping so fast yesterday

    Thankies

It ranges between 2 & 4 mins for me. Let it drain down to zero tonight and give it a full charge over night.
