Getting ahead of myself somewhat but does anyone recall when they usually release schedule information?
Think it's usually the end of September but I'm not sure.

yes I think its end of sept. As they need to see what is getting released in october for halloween, so they have an idea what they can show.

I'd also like to apologise to anyone (past and future) clicking on this thread thinking it contains info on the 'thon - I really should've spelled that out in the title!
    Sorry. :o

It's on at the end of October lads, not September.

Y'know, close to Halloween (but normally not on Halloween, strangely enough)

Oh dear. In your hurry to be a patronising dick you've actually failed to read the OP correctly. I actually asked when they release the SCHEDULE.
Shame that. You've come off looking like a bit of a twat, really. :(

I was being light-hearted not patronising.

    Apologies for misreading the OP.

    Post reported anyway though.

I've managed to be occupied every Halloween week for the last four years and never made it to anything like this before, hoping to break that cycle this year!

Thankfully the Horrorthon know their horror movies and what people want and it doesn't include the above.

Ah I know that but TBH there has been nothing that Id really like to see that has been screened, sure, there have been some classics but nothing that would make me drop everything to see.

The only exception is that a few years ago they screened Cannibal Holocaust and had Deodata doing a Q+A afterwards, that for me would be worth selling my soul for.

Sadly though this occured before Id heard of the Horrorthon but I do keep my lil fingers crossed that maybe someday something similar will take place.

The Day of the Dead screening with Joe Pilato last year was great. Now that the IFI has an extra screen, hopefully there will be more chances to show some obscure/forgotten gems...or trash.

They saw fit to screen Saw V back in 2008.

I think that was a last minute replacement and they showed it to fill a slot as something else was cancelled.

I heard a rumour that they are trying to get A Serbian Film this year which was pulled from Frightfest recently. Somehow I doubt the IFI would let them show it.

Any more info on this, what will be played anyway, can you put up here? or if the Screen are doing the same? Cant wait!

The Horrorthon has its own website, so you can get the details there. When they're up, that is - they aren't yet.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

As it turned out, the IFI did forbid it. You've probably all clickety-clicked it, like I did, and it's good, should have been shown. I can see why they were scared, but shame on the IFI for self-censoring. Feel free to question them by email. Will we see the remake of 'I Spit On Your Grave' now that IFCO has banned the original on DVD and after the BBFC censored it for Frightfest?

'Ed Wood' / 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' (that'll be fun to see in a full cinema) / 'Phenomena' / 'Gremlins 2' / 'The Night Of The Hunter' / 'The Dark Crystal'

Consider this a teaser, you'll know the new films soon enough . . .

Not exactly a line-up to propel me into the cinema thus far...

Cheers though. I await the new stuff.

We only have "the insider's" word on this so far.

I'd agree, it's not the best. Hopefully the new films will make up for it, there's less of a focus on American and British, with films from France, Italy, and Australia showing (and at least one Irish - cue groans at the Irish Film Board logo!). Although the opening film is 'Paranormal Activity 2'. There's documentaries too, on H.G. Lewis and video nasties.

    Also showing:

The Apple / Island Of Death

There may have been some last minute changes, which is why I'm not being too detailed on the new films, but the revivals I've mentioned are spot on, last I heard.

I can confirm that the Herschell Gordon Lewis documentary "Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore" will be shown on October 24th as art of the horrorthon. GOt confirmation directly from Frank Henenlotter one of the films directors not 10 minutes ago.

I was hoping to get up there this year to catch a weekend full of Horror. But The Dark Crystal? Gremlins 2? Ed Wood? A very bad selection, in my opinion. I can only hope the Premieres being shown are of a more interesting standard. (I'm not saying those are bad film, by the way. On the contrary, I really enjoy all three).

I'm kind of hoping for screenings of Hatchet II/Machete/Let Me In/After.Life/Paranormal Activity 2/The Ward/I Saw The Devil. Some of these would make it a great worthy trip up.

Is This the Island of Death thats been screened? If so its actually worth checking out for fans of obscure exploitation movies.

All I'm saying is that if someone comes on and lists a load of films it doesn't automatically mean they are accurate.

the_insider's last post would give me more reason to believe he's got a line on what is going to be shown. The one I was referring to sounded to me at first like someone just guessing.

Paranormal Activity 2 is the opening film.

That's the one. The director is expected to be there too.

Fair point, I should have mentioned that they were showing, rather than just listing them the way I did. Not sure what to think of the idea that I'd guess such a mad list though! :)

Hey man, the internet's a weird place! I've seen people fake weirder lists than that for things. :)

You don't have to be a member.

Although for most films you will need to pre-book.

Folks, we have deleted a number of off topic posts. Please stay on topic. If you have an issue with a post, report it. Dont get into a tit for tat spat on the thread.

    Thanks.

I was talking to a friend last night about the prospect of Machete showing - neither of us could remember if it had had a cinema release. I don't think it did and its otherwise "availability" notwithstanding it'd be one I'd be keen on seeing next month.

I haven't seen the first Paranormal Activity, not being a massive fan of the "found footage" type genre.

It'd be nice to see Machete & Hatchet II on the big screen.

Actually, since most of you guys have been to Horrorthon before, is it purely just films being shown all day or are their places you can purchase merchandise, too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Wait, whut, Machete is horror now?

The Horrorthon constantly shows non-horror films, it's actually one of the most irritating aspects of it beside the lackstruck line up each that is.

I'd love to see a screening of Andrzej Zulawski's 'Possession'

It should be out any day now, hopefully. And with regards to Machete, Horrorthon has shown plenty and I mean plenty of films that are just plain gore-fueled, not necessarily a 'Horror' movie.

I think I'm mainly hoping for a screening of Hatchet II.

I must admit that the birdy demon thing from the Dark Crystal scared the crap outta me as a kid :o

Any ideas when the line-up will be announced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭fergisimo

Called the IFI there, they confirmed these films; The Pack, Plan 9 From Outer Space, I Spit On Your Grave '10, Ed Wood, Primal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭sarah+1

Also showing Amer, Shadow, Phenomena, The Night Of The Hunter, Gremlins 2 and The Apple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭Adrift

Most years I buy a weekend pass, but there is barely one film I'm eager to see on that list. Disappointing to say the least. Hopefully the full list will be announced soon.

Partial confirmation on the website on what we already know.
I Spit on your Grave (Remake), Amer, Shadow, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Phenomena, Primal, Ed Wood, Night of the Hunter, Gremlins 2, The Apple, The Pack, Island of Death

Screwballs 2? The Apple? Seriously? Hopefully Ed and his chums down the back will have a rip roaring time.

Friday doesn't look too bad if you ignore The Apple, but overall a pretty weak line up with virtually nothing essential.

Wow, talk about a disappointing line up. Each year I talk about heading up to Horrorthon to celebrate my love of the genre and every year the dull and uninspired line up causes me to instead stage my own horror festival in the comfort of my own home.

I think it's about time that some tried to organise an alternate horror festival, one which didn't pull the piss out of the genre and instead celebrated it.
