    Hello to 1 and all,

I am a new Iphone user still learning my way and need some help with my email.

I have an ireland.com address. I have no problem receiving the email on my Iphone but I am unable to send. It just stays in outbox. I am using smtpx.irland.com as my outgoing mail server.

I contacted 3 and they told me to put in my outgoing mail server "mail-relay.3ireland.ie" . I have tried but this does not work. I then created a secondary server but it still does not work. I swapped the primary and seconday around and still no joy.

If anyone has any ideas to help me I would be very greatful..

    Thanks

here are the settings that you need for your iphone

    go to settings

then go to mail, contacts calemders

    Click add a/c

    Click other

    click add mail a/c

    then

    Name: yourname
    address: yourname@ireland.com
    password: your password
    Description: is automatically populated

    click save

on the next screen you need to enter in

    incoming mail server

    hostname: imap.ireland.com
username: yourlogonname (dont include @ireland.com on this part)

    Putgoing Mail server

    hostname: smtpx.ireland.com

You dont need to re enter your username or password

    Hit save

After a minute or two your a/c will be ready to use

Make sure the password field in the outgoing server is the same
Settings>mail click on the Ireland.com account. Scroll down to outgoing server then click primary server and check the password and username is correct

If you are using the 3 network to send outgoing emails then you need to use the SMTP of the 3 Network.

Under Outgoing Mail Server Setting on the iPhone enter:

    SMTP: mail-relay.3ireland.ie
    Username: blank
    Password: blank
    Use SSL: Off

That should work! Using SMTP of ireland.com is usually not allowed from other ISPs due to the opportunity to create mass SPAM attack from non members. The "mail-relay" SMTP has worked for me with iPhones on 3 for 2+years. Maybe you need to start from the beginning and recreate the email account on the iPhone.

No problem, glad you got it working.

I guess you can apply the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ;)

    Can anyone HELP please.

I have contacted tech support on Ireland.com and 3 networks but to no avail.

I am setting up email for Ireland.com and use the imap.ireland.com as the incoming server. Then when I put in mail-relay.3ireland.ie, it cannot connect and asks me to check the settings again. If I put in stmpx.ireland.com, that allows me to finish off the configuration and I am able to receive email but not send. So, I have also tried then to change the outgoing server to mail-relay.3ireland.ie and to turn the SSL to off.

Nothing works. I have deleted the account a number of times and again to no avail.

Can it be something else or perhaps the phone?

    HELP please

Super Scottyboy - thanks a mill for this. Having enough trouble having moved to Three for new iPhone 4 - but yet again Boards.ie and their great posters have come up trumps. Your solution works a treat.
    MUCH appreciated.

    Cheers.

I had great fun trying to get the iPad working with my emails. I have the 3G iPad and am using 3 as the mobile broadband provider. I have 2 emails an esatclear.ie and a mobile me address.

Eventually got the iPad set up to send emails over 3G yesterday but then had problems with sending emails from wifi.

Was going crazy - is there a guide anywhere to this or can anyone help as all I am doing is pushing buttons and hoping for the best.

Am I right in saying that I should just set up the mobile me account as per usual and stay away from adding additional servers for sending emails?

I set up the pop account (esatclear) to have the mail-relay.3ireland.ie as the primary smtp server and I have mail.iol.ie as a backup (for wifi at home) - does this sound right?

Also does this mean that anytime I go to a friends house and use their wifi, I will have to add a new smtp server?

    Very complicated......

No. It should be the outgoing mail provider of the internet service provider.

If your friend's ISP is the same as yours, no. If not yes.

You need the smtp settings for your phone provider and your home broadband provider if sending using the home WiFi
