I was away for over a year so have spent most of this year catching up on almost 2 years worth of albums. In doing so i haven't paid an ounce of attention to this years releases. Tried searching Google but all i come across are lists of big commercial names. I don't mind giving them a listen but i'm looking for what most people would brand underground hip hop. Something a little more thought provoking than ho's and bitches. But any album you thought was good and would recommend is cool. Thanks.

Nas & Damien Marley - Distant Relatives

Whatever style of hip-hop you like you should love that album, its a classic.

Thanks. Managed to find a good few blog sites in the end with a lot of what i'm looking for.

Was out for a drive there and listened to that Distant Relatives album. The beat on that track As we enter is crazy. Really like the album. Also came across a mash up of Nas and Bob Marley called Relatives Abraod released by 100 Akres. Blends well and worth checking out.

as the last poster said Freeway & Jake One, also Orizio's list is pretty tight.

On top of that I would say:

Dessa - A Badly Broken Code
Eternia & Moss - At Last
Trek Life - Everything Changed Nothing
    E-40 - Revenue Retreiving
    B. Dolan - Fallen House Sunken City
Grieves - The Confessions of Mr. Modest
    Sage Francis - li(f)e
    Ras Kass - ADIDAS

EDIT: Also find anything you can by Fresh Daily, really slept on MC.

Also, check out the Hip Hop 2010 thread.

I know you said not so much the big commercial names but I've to recommend Eminems new album Recovery. It's unreal. Eminem's a genius and when he dies so does rap
