Mercedes Gearbox

    HI
    I have a merc clk200 automatic. Recently I have been driving along and suddenly there would be a clink and it would go into 3rd from D. I cannot get it out of 3rd except by stopping the car , turn off the engine and starting it again. Even why I try to put it in manual nothing happens. There are no malfunction showing.
    Can anyone shed any light.

    Dropping into 3rd sounds like 'limp-home' mode. Are there any lights on the dashboard?

    Oil (and filter) change couldn't hurt....
