Have got back into swimming recently after stopping it when i was about 15, (20 now) and I was quite good. I love the sport and would be keen to know more about clubs people are a part of, as I am considering joining my local (Sligo) club in time. What is the main focus or even a reason why one should join? Any advice on entry/cost/competitions etc.??

    THANKS in advance!!

You have made a good choice to return to a sport you were trained in and good at when you were younger. Like riding a bike, you never lose the technique you gained in earlier years. So you will take about 6 weeks of 3 sessions per week and then you will be moving up in the lane rankings easily. I am a member of NAC Masters in Dublin. http://www.nacmasters.com/
Reasons for rejoining are obviously fitness, social, competition (if you want it). Costs for club memberships vary but all will incorporate a Swim Ireland Membership fee of 40 euro. Training sessions vary in price too so all I know that our club charge 6 yoyos a session of 1hr duration covering 3K per session max. We compete in Masters Galas at home and abroad, Open Water swimming in the summer and we even have a few Channel successes and hopefuls. If you are in Dublin you can always come along to one of our session if you want. Sligo has a newish pool and I think they have a Masters club too.

Fees were around €800 a year for me. Coul be less in other clubs. In competitions it's usually around €5 per event. The season's just started now so it's a good time to join.

That's for competitive swimming btw. No idea about masters.
