Back Cycling After Six Years Away

    Hey Folks,

I've just gotten back into cycling after about six years away. I don't do anything snazzy just cycling into work and back, town, Phoenix Park etc. I have to say though that I do feel like quite the mug sometimes. I'm shocked at the bad behaviour of road users, pedestrians, cyclists and even motorists.... I don't seem to remember it being as bad when I used to cycle so long ago.

The road out of the apartment complex I live in intersects with the Navan Road. There is a set of lights at the top of the road to allow drivers/cyclists to exit out onto the road safely. It's only 3 weeks back that I've been cycling but I've noticed several cars ignore the red light and move out onto the road when they felt nothing was coming- which is bad form but also illegal I think?

When coming up to a set of lights I always stop even if the road ahead is clear but a huge amount of cyclists don't- loads just keep on going through the red light. I'm sure if I did that I'd be pulled over by the long arm of the law!

Finally pedestrians............ arrgghhhh. I am one too but I never walk in the cycle paths- this seems to be a major problem in the Phoenix Park and it's very annoying! They also never seem to notice cyclists on the road- what's with this?

Anywhoo like I said I'm back cycling after six years away and really enjoying it. I just need to watch what I eat now, walk as well and maybe I'll get myself fit enough to cycle long distance!
