    Hi there!

I am going to France as a language assistant in october until april and I need to take out travel insurance to cover me for those seven months. Does anyone know of any policies that may cover me??

I would be so grateful for your help:)

    Nicola

Travel insurance only covers you when you are travelling.

thats not true, the time is the factor. most policies wont restrict what you do (except for extreme sports). however most policies maximum trip limit is 90 days, so if you can find something over that, perhaps a backpaxker policy, the your away (just read the policy exclusions). also dont be afraid to ring them and ask, they may exclude but be willing to delete exclusion for more premium.

i say the above as an insurance broker.

Have a look at VHI Global, think this may cover you but I am not certain

what exactly do you need insurance for? if it's for health then the EHIC card should suffice, my parents spend the summers in france and have never had any problems using the French Healthcare system. This of course assumes you're an EU citizen.

    See here for details

not sure what else you'd want insurance for.

Yes, VHI Global will cover you. Their offering is a combination of health insurance quite similar to the VHI products you will be familiar with and travel insurance.

Since you are going to be resident in France as opposed to a tourist, you will be covered by the French health care system, so travel insurance is not required and in most cases you will find that travel insurance will not cover you when resident in an EU country.

Also note that as an EU citizen you do not need travel insurance when travelling in the EU, you just need to have your European Health Card

What I would suggest is that you try to find an insurance that will cover your repatriation from France in the event of a long term serious illness.

    Good luck with that,

    Jim.
