How did he manage to capture the bullet going through the water drop?

    Amazing.

I think it's a computer controlling the shutter, the water drop and an electrical coil gun that fires the bullet

I'd edit that if I were you, just in case his house is broken into, you'd be prime suspect.

I think its a fake. If you fired a bullet that close to water parrallel to the surface, I'd imagine the displace air would cause a wake on the surface?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

It would; but not immediately beneath the round as it's moving so fast. You'd start seeing the disturbance behind the round. So it's possible he's just cropped that bit out. (Not saying it's not possible that it's faked either, mind...)

It's fired using a coil gun, so the round isn't actually picking up enough speed to cause the air displacement required to effect the water.

That's odd ND, coil gun velocities are usually well in excess of even the theoretical maximum you can get from a conventional rifle...

There was another thread featuring this photo somewhere, it included a link to the original feature in the Telegraph newspaper online, where the photographer explained that his coil gun had been dialed back, and was controlled, along with the camera and stobes, by one laptop. Essentially he was setting up the shot, pushing one button, and letting the laptop automate the the timings to get it just right.

    Edit:
Found the explanation, sparse though it may be, here and here as captions.

Anybody else think this is crap?

It's a very "meh" photo to me...
