    Hi

I have a lidl dish and receiver box, currently receiving 433 channels from 28.2 fine.
-They're just free to view channels i'm guessing.

Please would anyone know if I'll be able to receive Saorview?

    Thanks,
    Lj.

No. Saorview is a Digital Terrestrial system.

You won't receive Saorsat, the Irish FTA Satellite system when it starts either.

Reasons a Lidl Sat system is useless for Saorsat:
    • You need a HD DVB-S2 receiver (at least). Even the Lidl HDMI receiver is not HD or DVB-s2
    • The Lidl dish is likely not stable enough.
    • The Saorsat will be @ 9E, not @28E, so the dish won't be pointing correct direction
    • The Lidl LNBF on the arm of Dish is "Ku band", Saorsat uses a "Ka band" LNBF.

THanks for replies, that clarifies for me.

Will a specific LNBF AND dish be needed to get Saorsat? Eg, would it be possible to get an appropriate LNBF, and stick it on the end of a 60cm Sky dish?

Will the Ka band LNBF work with a standard DiSEqC switch?

Holes in a Sky dish maybe too big. Actual Sky dish isn't very good.

Yes a standard DiSeqc will work. On a Multiswitch you only need single output Ka LNBF as all transmissions in a particular spot are same band and polarity.

On an 80cm solid dish you MIGHT be able to mount 1 x Ku LNBF for freesat/Sky @ 28.2 and 1 x Ka LNBF for Saorsat at opposite ends of a curved 30cm bar on the arm. This needs tested next year.

A dedicated Saorsat dish is likely a 44cm or less "armless" boxed Cassegrain dish with rear feed. Quite cheap, unobtrousive and small.

Saorsat @9E and 30 degrees elevation approx. Freesat / Sky @28.2E and 22.5 degree elevation approx.

I think it is far too early to really say yet,as the satellite which the thing will work in has not even gone into orbit and every so often these things explode on liftoff.

Also Saorsat will be coming in from 9* East which is a huge gap between 28.2E if one was to try do a multi-lnb single dish setup. It is most likely that due to the KA band a small antenna will suffice and something looking quite similar to a wireless broadband antenna will actually pick it up as some one else (Watty i think??) posted here before.

One thing is don't go buying any equipment yet wait instead until it launches and saorsat branded mass market equipment comes on the market. The only thing I'd tell anyone to do yet is if they are in a new build or wiring phase to run TX100 coax cable from the living room and any rooms that wants it to the southerly side of the house with enough slack left to protrude through the wall and connect up when and if it launches.

Also if Saorview is reachable to your area having saorsat will give you no extra channels or advantage, saorsat is designed to duplicate saorview for areas of the country without terrestrial signal, or similarly if a large building was blocking your reception in the city or town etc.

Why do people have a fixation with these flippin Lidl dishes... the only place for them is a skip. A good 60 cm dish is not that expensive!

    probably because
    a) they're cheap enough to risk and
    b) they don't live near a decent TV / electrical retailer whereas Lidl / Aldi are pretty much nationwide.

    c) people have been brainwashed that Lidl are bargain. They are here 10 years now. I have seen stuff DEARER than Maplin or Tesco.

Are there any dual (Ka/Ku) band LNB's on the market yet ?

    You need a separate LNB.
    Just like for C-band.
