implants and smoking after surgery

    Hey i am a smoker i get 3 implants tomorrow tooth numbers 36,44,and 45 now here is my question i am being told that i cant smoke while the healing is going on 3 months as it will increase the chance of failure,How much will it increase the chance anybody got experience of smoking after implant surgery and what were the results,I am sh1ting myself

    As far as I know the success rate goes from 95-99% down to around 80% in smokers. I'll try to find a study reference for that stat.

    Don't smoke after, its not worth the risk. It's a lot of money. Imagine one of two outcomes: no healing in which case your several hundred euro just fall out of your head then requiring bone grafting and a new implant or partial healing when the implant has to be either trephined (imagine a cylinder shaped drill that goes around the implant) or broken out of your skull. Not fun. I know this only happens about 20% of the time, but that is meaningless if you are one of the 20%. For you it is 100%.

    No, if you smoke the risk of failure increases, if you smoke its against the advice and complications are your fault.

    got them done today i am amazed that i have very little pain and not a great deal of swelling the bleeding had completely stopped in a few hours dentist said that my bone was one of the best/hardest she had ever drilled but she also said that the screw fix was very good so heres hoping it all stays good thanks for your replys

    Implants work very well, you should have no problems.
