consultant charges

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge into the price consultants charge health insurers. I had an appointment with my consultant in their private rooms recently, I received an injection and the appointment took approx 15-20 mins. I paid 100 euro and completed a claim form for my health insurance company as requested by the secretary. Today I received a form from the insurance company advising me what they paid for the injection. They paid 340 euro for the hospital bed(I lay on the couch in the consulants room for 10 mins) and a further 100 euro to the consultant. Add the 100 I paid and oh my god, the cost is unbelievable. Should I question this and with who should I question, the health insurance company or the consultant. Maybe this is the going rate and I am in the wrong job,

That's the overnight cost of a bed. Give the insurer a ring and tell them it was an outpatient consultation and they'll chase it up with the hospital.

I would query the consultant's 100euro fee also. If he/she claimed and was paid for the injection by your Health Insurance company I don't think he/she is allowed to charge you for visit also, he is getting paid on the double. Check with your insurance company.

I suspect the 100 fee you paid was the consultation fee for the consultant. The 100 listed by the insurer was the fee payable for the procedure you had done.
There is a charge for day case beds as well so the hospital may be allowed charge this.
In Dublin most consultants are charging 150-250 for consultation fee's ......

(Ps not defending the amounts !! but they sound legitimately applied here)
