Galway Black Dragon Kickboxer Eric Daly from Gort won the main event on Sunday at the "MIdsummer Madness" Full Contact Kickboxing promotion in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway and added the IKF All Ireland Light Welterweight belt to his collection with a unanamous points victory over Waterfords Sean Barrett.
Both fighters weighed in @ 64 kg (one pound under the limit) and although Barrett put up a brave show he never once troubled Daly who was in control throughout.
Dalys next outing is in Gort on September 18 and negotiations are underway to fly in British Champion Howard Hogg from Cardiff for Dalys second defence of his IKF Superlightweight 5 Nations Title after which he hopes to move back up to Light Welterweight.
IKF European Super Middleweight Champ Cathal Manning defeated Corks Toby Belmueller on Sunday by unanamous decision (Belmueller was penalised for failing to make the mandatory kick count in Round 3) and Manning is also moving up in weight to campaign @ Light Heavyweight.
IKF Junior All Ireland Champ Charlie Ward was also in action in the Menlo Park and he took on Joshua Ferry from Dungannon in a scheduled 3 rounder but Ward was on fire and he had the fight fans buzzing with an electrifying display of kickboxing which saw Ferry retire on the stool after the second round giving Ward victory by abandonment.
Ezra Nolan from Clarenbridge took on Waterfords Sean O' Neill in an Elimanator fight for the IKF Irish Middleweight Title but O'Neills experience told and he took the win and he will now face Kilkennyman Clayton Delaney in Kilkenny on September 26 for the title.
