    Hiya,

Was just wondering if any of ye are in the know in reference to this topic.

Am starting college in September, have being diagnosed with a hernia and gallstones, both which will require operations. I currently do not have either a medical card or health insurance but will do once I start college as I am in receipt of the grant. Is it possible for me to hold off these operations until I receive the medial card or as because I have already being diagnosed do I have to pay for the operations myself??

    Thanks....

i too have been diagnosed with gallstones:( but i already have a medical card. I dont see why you wouldnt be able to defer the op untill after the medical card. you will get a medical card within 10 days from medicalcard.ie and the you can use that to get the op paid for.
You will most likely be waiting awhile to get your operation date because going public takes ages.
Iv decided to go private because it takes too long publicly.
    Best of luck:)
