    Hi everyone,
I’m told that this is the correct forum to ask if anyone out there knows someone who breeds "Teacup Chihuahuas", only the long-haired variety. I have wanted one for years, and being disabled means the breed is small enough for me to give it sufficient daily exercise AND have a new baby to love and pamper! Not to mention that I have already got a travel cot, toys AND a handbag cleverly altered to use as a “pet carrier” from my sister :) – I kid you not here folks, I am actually YEARNING to have this adorable pet, PLEASE HELP!
Please PM me if you have any info as to who I can contact. Thanks a lot!
    Bernadette.

Some great tips to make sure they are not from puppy farms, as posted on here previously -
    1) Google the phone no. to see if it comes up often on dog for sale sites.

    2) When they answer the phone say you are calling about the pups. If they say which ones, then be very suspicious.

Ok, ill just presume this isnt a joke and take it serious.

Sorry, but sounds like you want a doll, not a dog.

Dogs have 4 legs and are perfectly able to walk so dont need to be carried around like a baby or a doll in travel cots and handbags:rolleyes:

Also there is no such breed as a "Teacup" anything and you should stay well clear of anyone advertising any breed that has the word "teacup" before it.

You will not get anyone here recommeding anyone who breeds any "teacup" dogs as there is no such recognised breed.

I suggest you do some more research on your breeds and also get a dog for the right reasons, and carrying it around like a doll is not one. Personally, in my opinion, that is cruel to a dog.

Dogs are animals and need to be allowed to behave and act like one and they cannot do this if they arent able to walk on the 4 legs that they were given.

Aren't 'teacup' dogs usually the result of generations of runts being bred together and can come with a lot of health problems?

Make sure you do a lot of research OP.

As already covered, there's no such thing as a "teacup". You'll end up with a badly bred cross between two runts with serious health issues. There's a reason Paris Hilton has to get a new dog every few months; I bet none live past a year.

Secondly, don't fall for scams on websites advertising teacup Chis. I guarantee you will get an e-mail back if you make an enquiry telling you that the person who owns the dog has to leave for Poland on Monday so will sell it very cheaply and you'll just have to pay for a courier.

    And finally...

A travel cot? A carrier? A handbag? You don't need a dog. Seriously. What an awful life to give a little animal.

Im getting really tired of posters being patronising to people who come on this forum asking a simple question. This is the second time today ive witnessed posters being bashed for asking for advice.

Not everyone is well informed about everything animal related. Thats why they come here asking for advice. Can people not respond with simple educated and non patronising advice? I would be incredibly intimidated to come here and post a question for that very reason

The OP has mentioned shes disabled and obviously not equipped for a dog that requires alot of exercise. Also im sure theres plenty of us on here who "baby" our dogs. She has a bed, toys and a carry case. Essential equipment i wouldve thought?

OP what should have been said in a more friendly manner is unfortunately while those dogs do look very cute they are not a healthy choice of dog to pick. They are and will be prone to numerous health conditions. Rather than have yourself upset research the Chihuahua breed a little bit more before making a decision. If you still decide to go ahead then just be aware you may be in for heart break fairly soon into the animals life.

I'm quite offended that you would accuse me of attacking the OP or being in any way patronising. All I did was suggest further research and point out issues with teacup dogs.

Not trying to be patronising, but people are right, don't buy chihuahuas advertised as teacup.

Chihuahuas are tiny anyway, so just a normal chihuahua is what you want. :)

I don't know any breeders but the best thing to do would be to contact the irish kennel club or some kind of chihuahua club and ask about breeders? You can check donedeal too but you have to be really careful about breeders.

I was talking to someone who just got a "teacup" papillon from a breeder who couldn't sell it (as in she got it free to rehome it, she runs a rescue) and it has a hole in it's skull, which I'm sure is a result of being bred to be so tiny. Poor puppy :(

And I think people just got the wrong idea. I'm sure you're going to treat the dog like a dog and not a baby. I definitely think of my dogs as my babies though :) You just have to also make sure they know that they're not the top in the pack. Training classes would be a good and fun idea too. Some dogs get lots of behavioural problems if they're babied too much. But I'm sure if the chihuahua is very small and gets tired easily, it won't mind being carried in a bag :)

Phasers i didnt mention you personally. If you read the thread again its fairly obvious who i meant. Constructive criticism is majorly lacking in this forum sometimes. Posters should say nothing at all if they cant manage to do that.

    Bernadette.

As covered there is no such thing as a Teacup Chihuahua, I have a pretty small one ( 6ins tall ) though she was only as small as the one in your photo when she was 11 weeks old. At her tiny size she would be too small to breed from (not that I am interested, she's spayed) as she wouldn't be able to give birth (just trying to give you an idea of how small she is and the problems it can cause).
As for exercise, I take her on an hour walk a day with my other two dogs daily and she'll hike up mountains with us at the weekend or trapes through woodland no bother to her so it is a myth that they don't either need or enjoy plenty of exercise.
Also please don't put a Chi in a handbag, they are such dignified, independant little dogs and I personally feel it belittles them. They have 4 legs and are perfectly well able to use them.
Please, please do your research into any dog you wish to buy these dogs can suffer from water on the brain and severe eye problems due to their domed skull if they are poorly bred.
Finally these dogs aren't cheap, you are looking at anything up to €1000 for a well bred one, but it is money well spent when you get a healthy dog. I would advise you to contact the IKC for a good breeder, in the meantime please do alot of reading into these dogs and arm yourself with all of the information to make an informed descision, don't let your heart rule you head. Best of luck :)

OP, have you looked into any other breeds? I'd advise doing a lot of research into chihuahuas and also do some research on other breeds that might suit you. Some examples are Bichons, Maltese, Havanese, Toy poodles and King Charles Caviliers. Please research them all paying particular attention to possible health issues and personality traits and you'll find your opinion may change drastically. Once you have done all the research and you would still prefer a Chihuahua then try to find a few people who own them and spend some time with them before going ahead and getting your own. All puppies are going to need house and toilet training and you may find it hard to cope with a pup chewing everything and tearing your house apart so also consider if you would be better with a young adult than a young pup.

hi bernadette, my mam has 3 Chihuahuas, they came from a breeder near where u are

She got them for free because they couldnt breed anymore and the breeder didnt want them if she couldnt make money off them, Nice or what! I can find out the number if u like, she lives just off the tallow to fermoy road,

Now in saying all that, the 3 guys at home are fierce shy and will only go to my mam, they will shiver and freak out if i try and touch them, but they are getting better slowly but surely, I think their temperment is down to where they are from, i dont think they ever had someone rub them and show affection, but they are older and im sure puppies would be more friendly,

Sorry but why would you recommend this type of person to the op?? These are the type of people we should be staying well clear of. They are not breeders who look after their dogs, you said it yourself the person just got rid of the dogs as they couldnt make money from them anymore.
To me this is cruel and they only have money as their main agenda and not the care and welfare of their dogs so please do not recommend this person to the OP as i wouldnt touch this type of so called breeder as they are only puppy farmers at the end of the day:mad:.

+1 not mention the health and behavioural issues you will be taking on with a badly bred, badly raised and badly socialised dog, not worth it in my book.

Maybe some one should make anniehoo a Mod as I agree with most of the things he/she has said altough at the same time I was cringing a bit at what I read in th OP post, I guess we must educate and not judge.;)

As haddockman said earlier - stop the back seat modding!

Please play nice! No need to patronize folks. Play nice or I will have to get nasty! A bad thing to happen late at night when I am very tired & cranky!

AS I have said before - I am the NICE Mod! When I am getting annoyed others are ready to ban! Consider this a friendly warning!

Its not a puppy farm,I have seen puppy farms, this ladys place is lovely compared to what ive seen, I would have reported her after collecting my mothers dogs if things were bad.

yes i do not like the way she treats her dogs as money making projects and the older dogs used for breeding are very timid but jesus they are still dogs who need homes, She is still going to sell those puppies whether we like it or not

These are Chihuahuas for sale in the OP's local area, so i simply suggested she try there, she can decide to go there or not

Stroking dogs and showing them affection is the most basic of care! Someone who breeds dogs for the purpose of making money without even basic socialisation with humans is a puppy farmer ffs!!!!

Which is it? A lovely place or a place where dogs are treated as money making projects? Make your mind up! And No, she wouldn't breed them if people weren't stupid enough to buy them from her

I would suggest contacting the breed club for details of legitimate breeders with dogs for sale or ex-breeding bitchs which anyone with any gumption at all will have spayed before passing them on to a new home! I pretty sure she hasn't done this in your case as she'd have also passed the cost of spaying on to you.

adrenalinjunkie Thank you for your negative and angry response, I apologise for having a different opinion to you.

As i said before The OP can decide by herself whether to go there or not.
    End of.

Hi, I have a chi x, she is tiny and it can be a plus if you're out and about a bit, she gets to go everywhere too :) she does like to walk but I swear she gets a buzz out of being head and shoulders above everybody else and will jump into my arms for a lift when she wants to get out from underfoot. I got her through a friend in Tip and honestly she wouldn't have been my first choice of dog but she's very smart, (sometimes too smart) and good company and yeah I'm going to say convenient (I'm short on space, she's easy to look after and portable :) ). Why not check out your vets practice and see if they have any contacts.

Of course its a puppy farm, doesnt matter whether its someone who has 100 dogs or 10 dogs. When they are just breeding dogs to line their pockets and couldnt give a damn about the dogs, YES they are puppy farmers:mad:, male or female, doesnt matter.
No, she would not keep selling these dogs if people like you didnt recommend people to buy from her.
We have to stop these type of people selling dogs and the only way to do it is to stop demand and stop people from buying from them and informing them of the type of people they are and where and how the poor dogs are being raised or not be as the case may be.

These people are only in business if they are being recommended to buy pups from, so please, do the poor dogs a favour and DO NOT recommend this puppy farmer to any person.

Whether it's a puppy farm or not, chihuahuas can have a lot of health problems, so it's best to go to the best breeder you can find, to try to find a healthy one.
