I was refused the grant to pay my fees due to the fact that I was out of the country for 8 months working 2 years ago , so I didn't meet the 3 out of 5 years criteria. Is there any options open to me to get some financial help paying the fees?

if have to have lived in ireland for 36 months of out the last 60...if you were gone for 8 you still qualify provided you can prove it....appeal the decision..on the basis of your post the wrong decision was made.

appeal this - it looks to me like you lived 52 out of 60 months which is well over the 3 out of 5 years criteria otherwise

Possible sources of financial assistance would be

    Vincent dePaul
Student Assistance Fund (enquire in the college)
Local Partnership Organisation - e.g. Bray Partnership or Fingal Leader Partnership
    Credit Union Loan

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

seems like absolute horsesh!t as usual , duin their absolute damndest to make sure you dont get it... increasing the term "re entry" from one year to 3 years , etc etc this residence thing is new also.... so you fulfill the criteria but cant get it because you left for 8 months??!! what an absolute pile of cock.. theyd rather you stay trapped here on the dole, so THEN you might get your grant to try and better yourself, god forbid you'd leave the confines of this crappy country for EIGHT WHOLE MONTHS, in which time you were probably working!!! honestly this country is an absolute joke.

aside from my earlier post the op should appeal what seems like a harsh decision.................but in general i dont see why someone who has not lived in ireland for 3 years should get a state aided grant given that the country is broke. i am making the assumption that the applicant might not have a long work history either and therefore wouldnt have paid much in the way of tax.....i stress i am not referring to the op
