Are new micro sims backward compatible

Hi all, Does anybody know if the new micro sim is backward compatible. I know there are adapters available but it there any reason why it would not work in an older phone. Thanks

Yes they are backwards compatible I just put one into an n95 after I had problems with my iPhone 4. I didn't even use an adapter just positioned it right in the carrier and closed it down. Incidently when I got the iPhone 4 I cut the side off a full size simcard in the side of the phone and was able to copy my contacts onto it worked a treat.
