Can anyone give me a few tips on a decent condenser mic for recording at home. Happy to spend around €200 or so.

    Cheers,
    Niall

Good bundle on Thomann right now:

Great mics. For an extra €15 the rest of the stuff is totally worth it. You'd pay that much for the postage anyway!

That's a good mic stand coz it has a round base, but it's not a boom which might be an issue. The pop filter is a small bit fiddly but does the job.

have a look at the se2200a. i think the price has dropped to around 200 and its a lovely mic. very neutral sounding and works great on lead vocals. sounds a hell of a lot more expensive than it actually is!

+1. I'd agree with DT. I got a 2200a in Jan & use it on vox & acoustic guitar. Looks & sounds like a more expensive mic. Your friendly local dealer might even do a deal on one (hint hint Mr Brewer)

Great mic for the money. Better than the equivalent in AKG such as the C3000B or perception 220

    Got mine for about €180

I would recommend the ElectroVoice RE20 except:
    1. It's a dynamic.
    2. It's outside your budget.

Been using one on vocals for the last while, and it's lush. Love it. Not dull at all, as one might assume after using 58s all the time. Tight pickup pattern excludes the room effectively, and proximity effect is just right for most voices.

+1 SE 2200a.... a beast of a microphone. very versatile and really shines on vocals (really sounds hi end studio)... for the price its a no brainer

I have an Audio Technica AT2020. Pretty good, but does seem to lack a bit of low end. Find it hard to mic an amp with it, could be my crappy room though.

Where are you positioning it? I've never had much use for the room sound on a cab, unless it's the whole band together and we have room mics. I use a 4033a which is a very similar mic. It sounds really great on most cabs, right up against the grille, most often pointing at the centre of the cone but sometimes at the side.
