Hello all, I've lived in Dublin for 5 years now. For the last year and a half, I 've been unemployed. I'm jetting off on my own in a few weeks time, i don't have a job or accommodation lined up and I don't know many people in the city I'm going to. I have been feeling horrendously anxious these past few weeks that I have had to go on meds but although they stop me from crying everyday, I can't really function and get organised. I feel completely inadequate regarding my employment as I have not worked for so long. I know I need to go and I will. I just hope I don't burn out with stress before I begin. I feel my brain is caving in. I run most days which helps me a lot. I don't listen to music because I get emotional. The idea of starting off elsewhere and depending on an employment agency is making me stressed and I don't know if I have enough cash. I'll have about 3000euro to set me up but no back up if things get hairy and no one to depend on in the city. I've lived in the UK before and I'm by no means a homebird, but I've made some great friends here and I'm 29. I thought I'd be a bit more set up by now.....Anyone else in a similar position? i know there are a few....thoughts welcome...thank you

    Hey OP

I'm in a scaringly similar situation! I lived in the UK previously too, am in Dublin at the moment. Will soon be moving back to the UK again.

Where are you going? If it's not too far away, you could always head over to scout out accomadation/job agencies.

Make sure you send your cv to as many agencies as possible a few weeks before you head over - they may be able to line up a few interviews for you.
Friend of mine did a course style thing in cara communications on cv and interview skills. He found it very beneficial - not sure of the cost but think it was around 200. Worth it I would think if you haven't worked for a while and haven't had many interviews.
What part of UK you going to. If London there is just so much to do it is great. It will take you a while to get settled but just give it time. I have a few friends that moved over to london and for the first few months all I was hearing was I'm packing it in and coming home. Now it is the opposite - one got offered a job back in Dublin recently and he chose to stay in London as he has settled so much.

    Best of luck.

It sound like maybe you should spend some time setting up your prospects where you're heading. If this is the UK it could be much easier! Its possible you may be trying to do the whole moving process and change in one big go, while if you broke it down into parts to tackle (like accomodation, job, leisure interests, transport ...whatever!) and deal with them one by one then it would be of great help. Plus anything you can organise by talking little trips or over the internet might be good to do earlier. I dont know if your moving date is cemented, but if you would like to get more sorted before you move all of your stuff over then theres no harm in taking more time to do it right :)

    Best of Luck!

Thanks for the replies and wishes.I appreciate them.Yeah I'm london-bound to do supply secondary teaching. I know many have been and are in a similar position and it could be worse-that I have no doubt. I'm worried though because it's almost as if I've lost my toughness and strength since I 've been off work.plus my subjects area/knowledge isn't as strong as I 'd like for sure.I have being doing some study....not very confident at all......but once I get stuck in I guess...it's great to hear you know people who are getting on great over there. Yeah the date is set-2 weeks and I'm there....maybe I am homebird afterall-ha..thanks for the replies....p.s when are you heading over Funk?

    Hi thecatsayshi,

In the same boat here, and I don't think i've ever been so apprehensive in my whole life. Being Unemployed really knocks the confidence, but your the same person you always were so you have the same skills and drive.

Keep focused on the good stuff, like the new job, even tell yourself a few lies if that helps. (I like to pretend I'll spend my weekends surfing in southampton :)).

Come back and post some more and let us know how your getting on.
