The Sindo are reporting that Royston Brady (former Lord Mayor of Dublin) is considering running for the role of directly-elected Mayor.

The role of Mayor will dwarf that of Lord Mayor, with more power than any Lord Mayor could dream of.

Realistically, does anyone see Royston being a candidate, either FF or other.

The other thing that made me laugh about the 'article' is the place where Royston used to work being thus described: "one of Dublin's top hotels and country clubs".
Where could that be I wondered, Portmarnock Hotel & Country Club, maybe even Castleknock Hotel & Country Club, no it's "Roganstown Hotel and Country Club, near Dublin Airport". What? Where?

I'll believe it when I see it. It think it will be just a comfy chair, title and some magic beans for another parasite.

With all the quangos, councils semi-state companies + his eminence John Gormley with their fingers in the pie what will be left for this "mayor"?

Not for FF. Given their unpopularity in Dublin I think FF could need a celebrity candidate to get enough of the gullible to vote for their boy/girl.

Only thing that bothers me about this is that a fcukin kelp like Brady would even have the neck to promote his canditature.

But that is the problem...these fcukers are so brass necked and arrogant that they seem to blank out all their past missdeeds and disasters.

Next we will see Callery putting his name forward......

Now are the Dublin public so thiccc as to vote Royston for Mayor ...nooooooooo...I tell you noooooo !

Now fcuk orf Roy and do the handicaps for the next medal.....

Whats is the voting area for the Mayor? Dublin City Council area only?

    Dublin City and County residents.

Could be a Labour steal then if they have a high profile candidate. Any names mentioned connected with Labour? I can't see FG doing well with "I use to be a teacher in Skerries" as the party leader.

Nothing definite, but Ruairi Quinn has been mooted several times. Either way its labours to lose at the moment.

A Dublin Mayor is a good thing, badly needed and I hope they have enough power and influence in the job.

Ahh plenty of Country Clubs in the Southside. :)

Interesting if Mr Brady goes for unfair dismissal.

A mayor is a good thing but only in the proper context and we don't have the proper context. London has one mayor. If this goes ahead Dublin will now have five mayors. What do you think'll happen? The new mayors role will be severely restricted because of power plays from the other four and we'll have created yet another ineffectual public department and more waste of taxpayers money.

A single mayor with a vision for the future of the city is what's needed and for all county councils to be amalgamated again. At the moment we are just operating a jobs for the boys system and this new mayor will just extend the status quo.
